Episode 23 - Brain Scratch
SCRATCH, an order that is attempting to bring humans and technology together, is under investigation by the ISSP. As Spike is flipping channels, he sees Faye, dressed as an acolyte of SCRATCH. That night, Jet looks up Dr. Londes, the leader of SCRATCH, and learns that there is a 38 million woolong bounty on his head. He shows Spike the history of Dr. Londes' work and tells him that the doctor disappeared suddenly, only to reemerge as the leader of SCRATCH.
The next day, Ed searches for information on SCRATCH online while Spike and Jet use more traditional methods to find Dr. Londes. However, when they ask members of SCRATCH where Dr. Londes is, they grow hostile and do not answer him. Jet and Spike return to the Bebop with no information. However, Ed receives contact from Faye, who looks like she is in trouble.
The next day, Jet buys a Brain Dream to access SCRATCH. With the help of Ed, he registers with them and starts to see what SCRATCH preaches. However, Ein senses something is up and before Jet can be harmed, he bites Jet. Jet later realizes that without Ein's help, he would have been indoctrinated into SCRATCH. Ed searches more for information on Londes and finds that all the information known about him is false. However, all the records were generated from Alles Valley Hospice, so Jet and Ed decide to go in and investigate.
Meanwhile, Spike is searching for Faye, who he finds lying in front of a tower of screens. The screens start to speak and the face of Londes appears. He tells Spike that Faye is just sleeping. Spike asks him more questions about SCRATCH and the digital Londes answers. As Spike is listening, he finds himself growing sleepy. To try to keep awake, he shoots out several of the screens.
Jet and Ed find a child who is hooked up to a Brain Dream machine, but brain dead. They begin to shut down the machines keeping him alive. Later, they find out that the boy is actually Ronney Spangen, a hacker.
