Episode 8 - Waltz for Venus

Episode 8 - Waltz for Venus

After capturing a bounty on a passenger flight, Spike and Faye split up the bounty. While in the airport, Spike is attacked by another passenger, who was just testing his skills. Amazed at Spike's movements, the passenger asks if Spike can teach him a little self-defense. Disturbed, Spike gets into the elevator and tries to escape. However, the passenger is very persistent and follows Spike around the airport. Spike finally gives up and teaches the young man, Roco Bonnaro, a few moves.

While practicing, Roco spots a few men who have been chasing him. He gives Spike the package and runs away, asking Spike to meet him tomorrow at an old cathedral. Spike takes the package back to the Bebop, where he learns that it's a cure for Venus-sickness. Later that day, Spike goes in search of the remains of a shuttle out in the desert, looking for Roco. However, all he finds is a blind woman.

He explains that he is looking for Roco, who happens to be her older brother. She explains that the floating plants in Venus send down spores, which sometimes affect certain people, causing blindness. She shows him a package that she received yesterday - a music box with a packet of gray-ash seeds in them. The seeds can cure Venus-sickness, if grown into plants.

That night, Spike goes to the old cathedral. Roco tells him to run, but before they can, Piccaro, the leader of the gang who is after Roco, advances with a machine gun. He demands the gray-ash, but Spike provides a distraction by firing on the group, allowing Roco to find cover. At the same time, Faye and Jet, who have been in pursuit of Piccaro, arrive and fire on the crowd. However, Roco is shot and drops the gray-ash, the atmosphere of Venus killing the plant. As he is dying, he asks Spike to make sure Stella gets the gray-ask seeds. Spike promises to do so.

Later on, he goes to visit Stella in the hospital, who is ecstatic that Roco sent her gray-ash and money for the eye operation. However, she soon realizes that Roco is dead, based on Spike's voice.
