Shaman King Episode 16: Faust Love

A recap of the events from the previous episode brings us to the present moment with Yoh in OverSoul mode demanding Faust VIII let manta go. Faust VIII snaps his fingers and all the bone men he shattered before come back to life. Faust VIII continues with his experiments on Manta, now onto the brain. Manta cringes at the thought.

As Yoh is exhausted from his skeleton battles, the command is given for the real Shaman Fight to start. Unfortunately, Yoh has used up all his strength & his Furyoku is fading. Faust is ready to continue with his research on Manta. As Yoh lays on the ground struggling to move, Faust taunts him - that he will one day be the Shaman King so he can revive his beloved wife, Eliza. She had an incurable disease. As a child, Eliza was the only one who would talk to him. After twenty years, Eliza was finally able to overcome her illness and the two started a small clinic and were happy. Then, one day, a man shot and killed her. He desperately tried to revive her but could not overcome death. When science failed, Faust turned to necromancy. He must become the next Shaman King to bring back Eliza.

Silva can’t understand why Yoh is so angered and driven to continue the match. Anna explains that Manta is Yoh’s first human friend. He was called the ‘child of the devil’ and hated in his town. The Asakura family is a distinguished family of Shamans that began when the Japanese started believing in fortune telling. However, a family with that kind of power was also feared in an age when people have stopped believing in spiritual powers. The larger the Asakura family legend grew, the more isolated Yoh became. Manta was the first one to befriend him even when he saw Yoh with ghosts.

Suddenly, Faust VIII changes the form of his OverSoul from skeletons to Eliza. Eliza attacks and knocks Yoh back. Silva explains that Faust VIII has about as much Furyoku as Yoh, but he used less than 1% when controlling the skeletons because they were just bones. With Eliza, he is using much more because of the body created as well. Yoh fell into his trap to use up all his Furyoku.

Eliza attacks, breaking Yoh’s ribs, but Yoh won’t give up. He still must fight to save Manta. He refuses to lose to a doll like Eliza. This, of course, irritates Faust to no extent and Eliza starts attacking full force. Yoh blocks furiously, trying to wait out Faust’s Furyoku duration. Eliza slowly starts transforming into bone form, a sign that the Furyoku is dying out, but Yoh can’t take it and is knocked back and loses his Furyoku. Faust isn’t finished, though, anxious to make Yoh pay for calling Eliza a doll, and summons a huge skeleton to take Yoh out. Suddenly a man on horseback rides/flies up behind Faust and performs Golden Chuuka Zanmai to destroy the bone creature. That person is none other than Ren, Yoh’s next opponent, who has been waiting for his match with Yoh for a long time...
