@what101 : Blame isn't on the fan base if there isn't another one for 8 years, that's just the way Nintendo rolls sometimes. It's been 7 years since Mario Odyssey, there really should have been a followup to either that or Mario 3D World at this point. Retro had a game they were working on for years get canceled before being assigned Prime 4. It could sell 10 million copies and still not get a sequel for a decade.
You're just flat out wrong here. No one uses school grades as the basis for their review scales. It's been this way at most sites that use a 10 point scale for *years* (IGN also). If you're using a 10 point scale and anything under a 7 is considered a failure then you might as well be on a 5 point scale because 1-6 would all mean the same thing. Reviewing by school grades makes no sense unless you are actually using letters and no one does that anymore.
Here's Destructoid's scale which dates back to *2011*. The very first thing it says is "Average starts at five, not seven."
@olddadgamer: IGN has the exact same scale, 5 is mediocre. Not sure where you're getting that they only give 9s and 10s when if anything they're known more for giving 7's. Visions of Mana is one of the higher scores they've given the last couple weeks. Madden 25 got a 6, Star Wars Outlaws and Concord both got 7's.
Looking further back they haven't given a 9 since Lorelei and the Laser Eyes over 2 months ago and they've reviewed 30+ games since then.
