With San Diego Comic Con kicking off over in California they'll be a lot of new announcements on upcoming TV shows and movies; but one movie in particular caught my eye for quite a while now after it was announced back in 2013 starring Jack Black and plus the film being directed by Rob Letterman. Based on the children's book series of the same name by R.L. Stine, I do remember reading some of the Goosebumps books when I was younger during school including the TV series which was shown on BBC 1.

From what we saw from this trailer follows a teenager named Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) moving from a big city to a small town finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange he is a prisoner of his own imagination the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

Don't get me wrong Jack Black is a good actor did like him in School of Rock, King Kong and Brutal Legend, the Goosebumps movie is being directed by Rob Letterman who did direct the last movie Gulliver's Travel (2010) which did have Jack Black as the main star of the movie but however I did not like that movie at all with it being too cheesy and cliché. But when seeing the trailer for the Goosebumps movie you feel that it's not going to be that great for a movie, I know that it's trying to be a family-friendly movie for children especially with it coming towards Halloween on that month but almost 8/10 adults would very much likely be seeing the movie but leaving the cinema feeling disappointed and betrayed that movie isn't that scary at all. A movie had been in the ideas for a very long time since 1998 originally Tim Burton could have directed it but the film did not materialize because Burton felt he wouldn't make the film as good as the television series. I would have been happy if that went forward back than plus Tim Burton would have had the right art style and dark material if he did direct it but when looking back at the trailer for this you do wish that a proper horror movie director could have had a clear idea on how to make the Goosebumps movie scary but five times more messed up. Even if someone like James Wan (Saw and Insidious) or even Guillermo del Toro (Silent Hills/P.T.) I'd be fine with that because both writers do know how to scare an audience.

I do remember the TV series quite well especially when re-watching the series again through Netflix, some episodes I found quite scary and good at the same time if some took those scenes from the TV and say grab some of the scariest scenes that we've seen in games like the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill series, Fatal Frame series and some scenes from The Evil Within you might have a better chance in making a really good Goosebumps movie if it was directed by Japanese developers I mean think about it for a second while you are at it. I am still curious to see how well the movie itself will do when it hits cinemas in October including reviews on the film as well.
