New Rig

About a week ago I broke down and replaced my (6-7 year old) Sony VAIO 866 with a home built rig:

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor (Performance Rated at 6.2GHz)
  • ASUS M2N-SLI Delux Motherboard
  • 2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800
  • 2x Sapphire Radeon X1600XT 256MB PCIe Vid Cards
  • 250GB WD Caviar SATA 3.0 HDD
  • 3x Samsung 19" 940BW LCD Monitors

The cost wasn't too bad (thanks mostly to New Egg) and considering that I can now do more than one thing at a time without the system bogging down it's well worth it.

The only funny this is that the OS install didn't work out the way it should have. I bought an OEM copy of Media Center but it would not install properly. I then grabbed a copy of XP Home Edition I have lying around, installed that, then installed Media Center on top of that. It worked like a charm, but somehow I nowhave XP Professional. I think I'll live with it until I can get my upgrade to Vista. But if anyone has a suggestion I'm all ears.
