The Need 2 Bleed?

Gameplay or Graphics?  Quality or Quick Fix?  Is it me or did I miss something?  I don't have anything against any gaming platform, new or old, but I don't understand this thought of 'Great Graphics = Great Gameplay & Experience'.  I have been playing video games since the late 70's and the thing I had found is that some (not all) of the best looking games (regardless of platform) have been severely lacking in quality gameplay and replayability.  I have seen the Xbox360 and the PS3 and I will admit without question that the graphics are superb on both.  I espcially love the demo shown for the Marvel Alliance game on the PS3.  But is that game a fun game?  Will I enjoy playing it?  The cutscene was great, but what about the rendered play?  Would I even finish this game much less replay it?  Most important, is any PS3 game worth buying a whole system for right now?  Eventually I will get a PS3, there's no rush.  Right now, when I play the games I love on my PS2, I don't even realize that there are technically superior machines or better looking games on the market, it doesn't matter.  All that matters is that the system in front of me, with the game I am playing, has me fully immersed in its world and I am loving it.  So am I wrong?  Did I miss the point of immediately buying all of the bleeding-edge technology?  Or am I just an old fart who knows nothing about fun video games?  Regardless of your gear or games: Keep Gaming!!!!  :)
