I won a PSP!!

Check out Kuulu.com! I won the PSP from there.

This isn't fake at all, he's just promoting his music. Each week he has a new webcast/music video in which there are hidden symbols to find. There's a quiz on his website involving identifying the real hidden symbols from look alikes. If you get all of the questions right (only 4 or so), then you'll be entered into a raffle for a prize!

Here's the latest webcast, with me unboxing my PSP: click here

So now that I have a PSP, what games should I get? Only one I know for sure of is Crisis Core. Tekken 6 and Dissidia later on. Any suggestions?

Thanks! :)

Best Games Ever

So on GameFAQs now we can nominate 15 games that we consider the best of all time. I have come up with my own list that I would like to share. I asked myself questions such as "what are my favorite games in each genre?", "... spent the most time on?", "... most influential games?", "... most engaging stories?", and so on. In alphabetical order, here we go!

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and The Lost Ocean-- my 3 favorite RPG games all made it on this list. Baten Kaitos has unique characters, a good battle system, a great story, and the craziest plot twist EVER.

Diablo II: Lord of Destruction --one of my earlier online games that used to eat up all my time. This fast-paced action RPG had me slaying hoards of "hell bovine" to level up, killing the same bosses over and over hoping to get good items, dealing with shady hax0rs to get items through trade, and so on. I got scammed AND scammed others in this game LOL. I once was a "n00b" begging for items, then eventually became the helper giving away items in random public games. All of this ended up becoming one of the best game experiences ever for me!

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy – back in the jedi knight 2 and jedi academy days, I used to be in the gaming clan "Sith Lord Knights". We were a small, but fairly active clan in this game. Nonetheless, hanging out with those d00ds dueling and messing around with guns and random mods was a lot of fun. I was actually pretty good at this game too, and I won an in-clan tournament that temporarily made me a server admin and leader. Wooo FUN times!!

Killer7 – this game is a trip. There isn't much to the gameplay itself, unlike other games on this list. It's the story, music, characters, and weirdness that project this to my top 15. By "weirdness", I also mean that this game is unique, so much so that everyone should experience this masterpiece.

Killer Instinct – this is THE fighter to play for the SNES, not street fighter 2, street fighter 2 hyper turbo, mortal kombat, street fighter 2 more stereotypes, ultimate mortal kombat 3, street fighter 2 new characters n boring s-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!! While we're at it, this is also my favorite 2d fighter. Sad that Rare only made two of these games and the fighting game genre isn't so hot anymore, but remember: KI is KIng.

Metal Gear Solid 4 – just too epic not to be on this list. Sure, there are a lot of cut scenes, but that is also what makes this a great single player experience. All the gameplay in this was solid and the boss battles were all epic.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl – I was debating on which one to put in: the original versions that started all the craze or the latest versions which feature the almighty online feature? I've chosen the latter because adding online has enabled me to "catch 'em all" (really was "trading for 'em all" but a complete pokedex is a complete pokedex). Besides that, I think the Pokemon series is great; it's an adventure getting to beat the elite 4 then it becomes an awesome, deep strategic game when battling with others.

Starcraft – I'm not good at strategy games. A zerg rush would ruin me. My zerg rush vs you would probably be too slow to do any damage. Micro managing is the bane of my existence. So why did I put a strategy game on here anyway? Because of the custom maps of course! Tower Defense and what not were so simple, yet so much fun. Warcraft 3 improved upon this, so really this nominee just goes to Blizzard strategy games and their custom maps.

Super Mario Galaxy – The best Mario game should be on this list as well. All the levels were fun and there's a ton of variety throughout. The great music also sets the mood for these levels very well. I especially like the Space Junk Galaxy music because it's so soothing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64Czms00U2w

Super Smash Bros Brawl – Best local multiplayer game; playing this with friends makes for a great time. The soundtrack is so good too with plenty of ****c game songs such as Mute City, Bramble Blast, Green Hill Zone, and so on. The gameplay really is what shines. The GC controller and Smash Bros are a perfect combination.

Tekken Tag Tournament – This is more of a nomination for the Tekken series in general. They are great fighting games with lots of cool characters, music, and solid gameplay. This is my choice for the 3D traditional fighters.

The Legend of Dragoon – Another great RPG that should be included. The winglie "Lloyd" is one of my favorite video game characters, was a cool character with an awesome sword. In fact, I really liked all the characters in this game because they are all different and unique. The dragoon stuff is epicly awesome too. The graphics were good back then, but dated now, WHAT IF what if WHAT IF another Legend of Dragoon game gets made? That would be my most anticipated game since… well, Brawl lol.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess – My favorite Zelda game should also be on this list. It's not that much better than my other favorites Ocarina of Time and A Link To The Past. What really pushes this game over are the graphics, length, and final boss fight. That was just such a great fight to bring closure to the greatest adventure yet.

Unreal Tournament 2004 – I swear by this game as the best FPS game ever. It's more "run 'n' gun" which is what I prefer in FPS games (and probably why I suck at/dislike almost all of them). There's no reloading, just pick up guns, ammo, and go. Lots of jumping around in this UT game too, which makes every confrontation that much more interesting. There's also a great modding community for this game that created plenty of stuff to increase the longevity even more.

World of Warcraft – It's hard for me to even defend this choice haha. While playing MMORPGs, I think highly of them because, honestly, they hook me in and keep me playing for hours straight. I truly played WoW for 12 hours straight multiple times. However, upon quitting an MMORPG, I think negatively about them, saying they're a waste of time and such. While it may have been a "waste of time", what else would I have been doing? Just playing other games for the most part. So for one game to keep me interested for ~6 months, totaling ~1500 hours play time, I believe that it deserves to be considered one of the best games ever. WoW wasn't my first MMORPG, but it kept me coming back for more longer than ones before and afterwards.

***** Games not mentioned that I was debating putting on this list ******

Bomberman (series), Chrono Trigger, F-Zero GX, Final Fantasy X, Goldeneye, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario World

Winter break 08-09 stuff

Well, since I made a blog last year choosing my game of the year, I'll do the same this year and then some. I think I'll start blogging more often though, maybe monthly instead of yearly lol. Anywho, here's what I've been up to...

Watching Anime

- Watched Air. I saw this one randomly and decided to watch it since it's only 13 episodes. It was enjoyable with good themes to it, but it had a weird ending. A little too much paranormal stuff for me really.

- Watched Neon Genesis Evangelion. I had seen this anime recommended so much and I had seen it rated so high that I just had to watch it. It was interesting enough to keep my attention with the enemies being called "Angels", the deep characters, and the weird relationships in the series. However, the ending made pretty much no sense to me and the action was kinda lame. I declare this series overrated!

- Watched Gurren-Lagann. This anime is very, very good. Some members from Nintendo Dream recommended this to me and I was skeptical at first because I hadn't heard of it before. It turned out to be incredible. Great characters, epic speeches, plenty of funny moments, good story, and intense action made this one of my favorite animes ever.

- Watched Avatar. I was also skeptical about watching this because it's a Nickelodeon cartoon and I haven't watched anything from Nick since I was a kid in the 90s. I've seen a couple cartoons on cartoon network that have made me think that cartoons nowadays aren't as good as the ones I grew up watching. This may be true overall, however Avatar really is great. All the good things I said about Gurren-Lagann can be placed here too. The ending was so epic and this show definitely sends out great messages all around.

Gaming

- Sonic Unleashed. I really watched too much anime to even get to beating my xmas games, which were this one, Okami, Oblivion, Chrono Trigger (DS), Contact (DS), and GTA 4. However, I did manage to beat Sonic Unleashed though and I spent maybe a week doing so. It isn't as bad as nearly everyone says. The werehog levels aren't Sonic, but they aren't really bad either. The game definitely can get frustrating, but nothing's overly challenging. The final boss and one other boss really sucked though. I don't see why it deserves such low review scores though. I would give it at least a 7/10.

- I've played very little of the other games, but they're all pretty good. Okami is awesome looking (artistic) and fun to play so far. Oblivion is something like crack and I'm holding it off until I beat my other games.

2008 Game of the Year

- Super Smash Bros Brawl! I know, I know, why didn't I choose MGS4? or Resistance 2? Well, Brawl almost lived up to the epic hype that I set for it (only thing it missed for me is the online -- but that's a disappointment in all fighting games) and that's a great accomplishment. The offline multiplayer is my favorite ever, as well as its soundtrack.

Can't really say much about this game of the year like last year's because last year's wasn't as hyped up at all. I just bought the pokemon game because I hadn't played Pokemon since Pokemon Silver and I ended up surprised at how good it was.

My 2007 Game of the Year

It may be a little early since I haven't played my Christmas games yet (hopefully NiGHTS, DBZ BT3, and Sonic Rush Adventure), but I'd like to mention some of my more enjoyable gaming experiences of the year, then say what I believe is the 2007 game of the year.

Mario Strikers Charged is my favorite Mario sports title and no that's not just my Brazilian-ness talking. It's fast-paced, fun, and unrealistic (almost always a plus when it comes to games for me) with my favorite Mario character -- BOO! I got through the aggravating single player pretty fast, and unlocked my favorite captain Petey, then I started playing online. More often than not, people I'd play against were unskilled, and I ended up with double-digit scores against them upon their... disconnecting. So online isn't too great thanks to such sore losers, but I still recommend this game to anyone and everyone :) .

I'm not a big Metroid fan. I think the Medal of Honor series has been downhill since Allied Assault. However, both Metroid Prime 3 and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 have shown me, and developers, how FPS games should be done on the Wii. MP3 had a sweet beginning and end. MoH:H2 is fun online; the controls are really a nice change for FPS games.

Mario Galaxy left me in awe upon playing through many of its amazing levels. It was an experience similar to me playing Super Mario 64 many years ago. Unlike Super Mario 64, I actually got all the stars in Galaxy! Every single star was fun to get, and I could happily replay this game again. What a great year it was for this not to be my game of the year...

Well it was a great year for gaming for everyone, and the game of the year is really up for grabs among the games with good reviews. However, I'm going to choose a game that's truly brought me back. A game that I feel I've achieved more in than any other. A game with a huge following of both fans and resentment lol.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl!!!

Even as I've been typing this, I have the game on right below my keyboard. I have all 490 Pokemon in my dex right now, so why am I still playing? I have a whole list of things that I want to do in this game still! I have multiple teams to make for my beloved double battles, which means many more Pokemon to train. I haven't been as enthusiastic about Pokemon since Pokemon Red/Blue.

Back in the elementary school days of Pokemon Red/Blue, we used to have battles and trades during recess and after school. My favorite Pokemon Tangela was always getting destroyed by everyone using legendaries lol. Thanks to the internet, I found that great MissingNo. which deleted my great Pokemon Red save file. I did manage to transfer some Pokemon over to Yellow, which I transferred over to Silver when that came out. However, when Silver emerged, I was in Middle School and Pokemon just wasn't "cool" anymore.

Sapphire/Ruby, Emerald, Fire Red, and Leaf Green all passed by without me playing them. I just couldn't possibly play a Pokemon game since the social aspect would be cutoff completely (trading/battling). Upon hearing about the online capabilities of Diamond/Pearl, I rushed out to buy Pokemon Emerald so I could get back into the swing of things. Emerald has some pretty cool legendaries, which are now in my Pokemon Pearl game.

Pokemon Pearl revitalized my enthusiasm. I couldn't send my legendaries and team Pokemon from Emerald from the start like I was expecting. No, I had to play Pearl just like I played Red many years ago... at least until I saw all the Sinnoh Pokemon. Upon obtaining the National dex, I created two new goals for myself: get all 490 Pokemon and make all my favorite Pokemon into good battlers. I finished goal #1 a couple weeks ago thanks to the serebii.net Wifi trade chat channel mostly, and I'm still working on my "Pokemon army" :).

start -> save... 345 hours and rising of playtime. Thanks Pokemon Diamond/Pearl for letting this 19 year old college student become a Pokemon Master!
