Farewell PlayStation?

When I bought my PlayStation 2 in 2002, I bought it because of the wide variety of games ( and the amount of it ) and the controller. The PlayStation 2 controller was perfect for me. Three years later, I know the PS2 has a few weaknesses ( the durability, for example ), but I'm still convinced in the fact that the PS2 has the best controller of the three now-gen-consoles.

At least, that's what I thought. I still can't handle a GC controller ( I have to search the buttons every time ), but I played a few hours with the S-version of the Xbox-controller, and the thing is nearly as good as the PS2 controller. I say nearly because I want to have the illusion I made a good choice in 2002.

OK, back to 2002 then, knowing the Xbox controller is just as good as the PS2 controller and the Xbox becomes moe and more powerful, I think I made a mistake in chosing the PS2. Most of the PS2 titles are done better on the Xbox, it's better online and it's more powerful. Shouldn't I sell my PS2 and buy an Xbox? NO! The 360 is approaching and Microsoft doesn't make any exclusives for the Xbox. Yeah, so what? Not really a big deal, as the recent exclusives will be low priced by the time I buy a Xbox. So that's no big deal. The thing is: no PC-ports, and those are a major part in the Xbox line-up. The titles I see now are all PC/XBOX360. And I don't sell my PS2 for the multiplatforms that are also on the PS2 ( although a little grainier ). I thought about it, and I'm not going to change. But I'm thinking of a Xbox 360... Maybe, by the time the disc reader in the PS2 is crashed again...

Tired of complains

I'm getting tired about all the complains about some consoles/handhelds, especially the PSP, PS2 and the Revolution. Want examples?

PlayStation Portable: Some people complain about the PSP because it isn't "innovative" enough. I heard people saying: "It's just a portable PS2". For God's sake, what's the full name of the handheld? OK! People are saying the PSP has only good graphics, while the DS has innovative gameplay. I won't say the DS hasn't, but what's wrong with a smaller version of the PS2? The PS2 is the best sold console of the current generation, so a portable version is a logical step of Sony. And if Nnintendo just brought a new Game Boy? How many people will complain about that? None. The fact that the GBASP has a 9.3 as average score, says enough. Sony does what Nintendo did in the past: just make an average handheld with medium performances and cash-in. Because there's a lot wrong with Sony's handheld, not to mention it's emphasise. "A grandma will use the PSP for music and films, while a kid will use it for games". My God Sony, how many grandmas do you think will spend 400 Euros for a PSP + 1 Gig. Mem. Card. My grandma can't wait to buy a PSP with expensive UMD-discs, short battery life and dead pixels.

PlayStation 2: Same story. Read the Splinter Cell 3 review for Xbox and PlayStation 2 and make up your conclusion. Xbox is stronger and more powerful than Sony's console, but it's not bad. The Xbox-sound increases and the PlayStation-sound ( me ) decreases. But I hear a lot of fanboyism about the Xbox and flaming against the PS2. Thanks to Halo 2.

Revolution: Some sigs already say it. Revolution from Nintendo is it's beginning of the end. The Revolution's power is less than the PS3 and Xbox360. Is it? I heard rumors about a 3D world, like everything's moving towards you instead of being flat on the screen. I also heard the Revolution's maximum resolution is much lower than the other two next-gens and EA(?) claimed Revolution ports are not easy to make and very expensive, leaving companies with a choice: PS3+Xbox360(+PC) or Revolution? What would be YOUR choice? On the other hand, how original will games be on the Revolution? People liking something completely diffirent can always buy the Rev. And what will appear? Zelda, Mario, Wario, Luigi, etc, Metroid Prime. More exclusives? I don't know. If the following franchises will be your choice, how many will Nintendo loose of it's backbone? Nintendo however, does focus on another group, not willing to buy a console yet. Games like Texas Hold 'em Poker will convince non-gamers to buy a Rev., so says Nintendo. Really? Are you willing to pay X dollars just to play card games or pinball? People who don't have a computer, can't play virtual card games. A Rev is much cheaper than a computer. But is person-without-computer X willing to play virtual poker? What the...? Perhabs the Nintendo backbone will grow from people who don't like PS2/Xbox/PC-games and want to wait for the onslaught. But is it big enough to call this a revolution? In the end, Nintendo focusses on the gameplay, whilst Sony and Microsoft go for the graphics, and people who really want something new, will buy a Rev. Buy how many will do that?

Some people are tea-haters, some people hate hot coffee...

I heard a few stories about the Hot Coffee mod in GTA:SA, crazy stories. By now, GTA has an 18+ rating, instead of the 17+ ( why is that one-year diffirence so important? ) that the game had first. But Australia rejects the PC-version, "because of the disgusting, awful and violent erotic sequences", replied a worried mother. But the worried mother accepts you can kill hundreds of people? Get real and say what you think, whatever it is, because this is ridiculous! And people unlocking the sequences are even worse in my opinion...

No, i dont like GTA. I hate GTA! I played the PS2 version with a friend and i saw the things i hated about Vice City. And believe, if you bought the pole position club, you could unlock a scene where Tommy Vercetti was staring to a stiff-animated, colorless, pixel-dole, which can be considered quite the same as the hot coffee mod. OK, the hot coffee mod is a bit worse, but i saw a few screens ( in a newspaper, the affair is famous ) and again, it looked fake and a gimmick addition to emphasise the M-rating! But Rockstar finally got too far and the con-gta front in advancing. And I would say to them: "Destroy the game if you like, but do not say you do it because of hot coffee!" Because they mean to say: "Finally, we have found an argrument against GTA!"

The worried-parents club will destroy all the GTA:SA games, which means the illegal trade becomes popular. Police officers will have to hunt down illegal GTA-smugglers. In the meantime, they will not have the time to hunt down killers and drug smugglers. So what makes more sense: hunting down GTA-smugglers or serial killers? Well, at least we are protected against the visual violence of GTA. And i'll realize , when i'm killed by serial killers, the worried-parents club saved my life, because i cant play GTA. No, exagerrated, of course!

GameSpot RPG??? part 2

For those who haven't seen part 1, this is where the story was about: I had some critisisms on the discourgaging GS system with points and ranks. Now, for some unknown reason, I receive more and more poiints by simply doing nothing. Does that mean I should never logout and my points and rank will just increase??? First I didn´t log out but just turned off the computer and after 7 days or so, I was in level 3. Anyway, it means I don´t have to be 24-7 online. It was a thing I was afraid of, but now I seem to get the hang of it...

PES vs ISS

It's a long time ago I played an old game. If you see my collection you might think diffirently ( tons of old titles ), but I never play them. I enjoyed PES 4 very much and it was the best football experience I could get, but I saw another footie, much more fun - but not recommandation.

My schoolmates and I went for a week to a private boarding school in England ( in normal English: school for super-rich children with busy parents who are never home ). There was a game room where you could play, suprisingly, games, but tabletennis as well. I tabletenissed a lot, but also gamed when I had to wait for half an hour or to calm down when I lost with 21-0. It was an old SNES with a snowy TV and a few games, but we played ( yes, multiplayer ) Konami's footie International Superstar Soccer 1998. That created high expectations ( Konami's Pro Evo rulez ) and I allways had a large grim on my face - even when I lost. It was fun to play. Not as sharp and as good as PES, but simple and funny. The players looked like wire models, the ball looked like a square but oh my, such laughable things I'll never see back in Pro Evo. I don't recommend it, but - especially multiplayer - is a thing you'll never feel in any footie, because the game's graphics are riducolous ( erm... I mean ISS's graphics, right ) and the laughable situations will make you feel more free than today. The games today are ( compared with ISS ) so sharp and realistic ( BYW2 not counted ) that it feels more like a movie and you ( me in any case ) will hardly think "oh right, it's just a funny game". The exeption is Mario, Wario and other Nintendo's creations. With Super Mario Kart I thought: "It's a game." And it's a long time ago I felt that.

Gamespot RPG???

I've joined GameSpot Saturday 20th of August, so it isn't very wise to make criticisms right from the start ( though I wonder who'll read this ). I was a bit familiar with the GS system: gain points to raise level and "unlock" new stuff. You can gain points by exploring new things(?). Although everyone on GS.com knows this system well ( you cant miss it ), I do complain... a bit.

OK, it's fine you should create an account to give scores and opinions. Because that was my main reason to join ( oh my, what do I say? ). Sometimes, I really didn't like the GS opinions and I wanted to say my opinion on game X or topic Y. But what do I see? "You'll need level 6 to write a review or enter a score OR go for GS Complete!" I wasn't interested in a GS Complete account ( I'm really allergic for the words "bill" and "payment" ), so I had to raise in level ( which I'm still working on ), and I find the system a bit discouraging. In better ways: this looks like an RPG, which can be very enjoyable at times, but NOT NOW! Of course there's a reason for it: GS just didn't want flaming, which is good. But I'm no flamer ( OK, some will say THIS is flaming ) and I just want to write one or two little reviews and quit with it ( that was before I saw there were forums ).

Until then, I'll just have to be patient and keep on posting, tracking, etc. Of course this is very funny, too, but it wasn't my main reason and because English ain't my language ( as you noticed ), some of the fun will just go straight pass me and I will not notice it was meant as a joke. By the way, this account system does work really well. The standards are much, much higher than I've seen on other sites under the reign of fanboyism and flaming ( though it is here too, only less ) and the forums I visited only had readable messages.
