I'm getting tired about all the complains about some consoles/handhelds, especially the PSP, PS2 and the Revolution. Want examples?
PlayStation Portable: Some people complain about the PSP because it isn't "innovative" enough. I heard people saying: "It's just a portable PS2". For God's sake, what's the full name of the handheld? OK! People are saying the PSP has only good graphics, while the DS has innovative gameplay. I won't say the DS hasn't, but what's wrong with a smaller version of the PS2? The PS2 is the best sold console of the current generation, so a portable version is a logical step of Sony. And if Nnintendo just brought a new Game Boy? How many people will complain about that? None. The fact that the GBASP has a 9.3 as average score, says enough. Sony does what Nintendo did in the past: just make an average handheld with medium performances and cash-in. Because there's a lot wrong with Sony's handheld, not to mention it's emphasise. "A grandma will use the PSP for music and films, while a kid will use it for games". My God Sony, how many grandmas do you think will spend 400 Euros for a PSP + 1 Gig. Mem. Card. My grandma can't wait to buy a PSP with expensive UMD-discs, short battery life and dead pixels.
PlayStation 2: Same story. Read the Splinter Cell 3 review for Xbox and PlayStation 2 and make up your conclusion. Xbox is stronger and more powerful than Sony's console, but it's not bad. The Xbox-sound increases and the PlayStation-sound ( me ) decreases. But I hear a lot of fanboyism about the Xbox and flaming against the PS2. Thanks to Halo 2.
Revolution: Some sigs already say it. Revolution from Nintendo is it's beginning of the end. The Revolution's power is less than the PS3 and Xbox360. Is it? I heard rumors about a 3D world, like everything's moving towards you instead of being flat on the screen. I also heard the Revolution's maximum resolution is much lower than the other two next-gens and EA(?) claimed Revolution ports are not easy to make and very expensive, leaving companies with a choice: PS3+Xbox360(+PC) or Revolution? What would be YOUR choice? On the other hand, how original will games be on the Revolution? People liking something completely diffirent can always buy the Rev. And what will appear? Zelda, Mario, Wario, Luigi, etc, Metroid Prime. More exclusives? I don't know. If the following franchises will be your choice, how many will Nintendo loose of it's backbone? Nintendo however, does focus on another group, not willing to buy a console yet. Games like Texas Hold 'em Poker will convince non-gamers to buy a Rev., so says Nintendo. Really? Are you willing to pay X dollars just to play card games or pinball? People who don't have a computer, can't play virtual card games. A Rev is much cheaper than a computer. But is person-without-computer X willing to play virtual poker? What the...? Perhabs the Nintendo backbone will grow from people who don't like PS2/Xbox/PC-games and want to wait for the onslaught. But is it big enough to call this a revolution? In the end, Nintendo focusses on the gameplay, whilst Sony and Microsoft go for the graphics, and people who really want something new, will buy a Rev. Buy how many will do that?
