free verse

No, no, no, not freestyling, free verse poems.

I don't know if its worse writer's block than last night, or I'm "expanding my horizons" as it were. but I'm trying a bit of free verse poetry. Here goes...

I really like the snow. :lol: I especially like the first snow of the season. It's a surreal feeling when you are outside and the first flakes fall. I tried to futilely convey this surrealness here.

As night gives in to day

The sun is obscured by clouds;

Clouds of a dull grey.

an eerie stillness fills the air.

its quiet. not a sound.

So quiet, one can hear the clockwork of their soul.

What is that?

is it the first flake?

The trees have lost their leaves.

Naked, the trees welcome the virgin snow.

Flakes begin to fall, heavier now

Flakes begin to fall, slowly now.

Seems an eternity.

for each flake, its own eternity.

Still, an eerie silence....

The wind, in awe, still.

A cold shiver runs down one's back.

But this is not due to the frosty air;

This scene is beauty, at its finest.

This is a poem about getting woken up from sleep. This is the first time I've thought up a title for a poem when I wrote it. i usually just look at a line and make that the title. The title of this one is A Rude Awakening

Roused, from sleep

I am freed, from the pillow's

debilitating maw.

A high pitched, shrill cry,

from what seems a mile away.

As senses come into focus,

I hear.... a song.

Oh what a beautiful song it is,

A siren's song,

A Bird's song.
