I'm defiantly not one :P
But here's a short list of some whom are:
Franz Kafka - Very good writer. I take a lot of que's from him about my work. He though his work was absolute trash. Upon his deathbed, he told his wife (i think) as his final wish, for all of his works to be burned, preferably unread.
H.P. Lovecraft - not quite for his Cthulhu mythos, but his other works. He uses his words like brush strokes to form a macabre, eerie feeling for most of his work.
William Faulkner - As I Lay Dying is possibly the best novel I've ever read. not quite for the story, its a boring one if you look at it. But the way he tells the story, through many people's points of view; makes it one of the most clever and astounding works I've read. How he can "get inside" all these character's heads and speak through their point of view is just absolutely amazing.
Edgar Allen Poe - Great writings all around. Well known for his story The Raven. But one of the more Psychologically stunning pieces of work written by him is The Telltale Heart. It delves into the mind of a murderer, breathtaking.
Willaim Shakespeare - This goes without being said. Amazing poet and playwright. This man's firm, but subtle grasp on the english language is nothing short of perfect. Very profound tragedies that never fail to strike a chord with anyone willing and able to understand his antiquated language.
Geoffrey Chaucer - Wrote The Canturburry Tales. A writer far ahead of his time. He spoke out about the church when it was in its most powerful over europe, but he did so in a satirical and devious way as not to get reprimanded. This man had guts speaking out against the most powerful force in europe the way he did. And he did it very astutely too.
And there is one other author I'm thinking of, his name is on the tip of my tongue, but I cannot think of his name. I read one of his works in my Senior year of high school, but again, I cannot remember the name of it. Amazing.
He died young of smallpox, I believe. Because of that ill omen looming over his head, he spend the rest of his day writing. Many scholars believe that if he hadn't died early in life due to smallpox, his work would have been comparable and rival Shakespeare's.
If anyone knows this author's name, I'll give hugs, cookies... and any favors ;) to you :P
And feel free to post any of your favorite writers :D
EDIT: I figured out who I was thinking of. His name is John Keats. So I get hugs, cookies and a favor to myself :o :?
