I got into a text argument with my friend about the Harry Potter series. I've come to the conclusion(long ago) that he's an idiot :P

Here's the convo, its convoluted and confusing.... but somehow funny.

E: So i saw Hp5 or whatever number it is... it was okay and the dumbledore clap was the best scene of the movie
C:I thought it sucked until they started playing opeth... Oh wait, that was when i put on my headphones.
E:Lol. It could have been better but the thing is i haven't seen hp and the prisoner of azkaban.
C:That was the last book I read, then i was like"**** this"
E:Rofl. But the reason the kids could see those things (the spirit horses) is because they've all in one way or another seen death.
C:At the beginning only harry and the weird **** could see them.
E:yeah but you find out later that nevill's parents died and that ron's dald almost died. Herionne almost lost harry to voldermort so that covers her. or they all rode on them without seeing them.

E:I'd much rather polish the turd and have it still reek but look good then just let it sit there reeking and looking like an even worse piece of ****.
C:Why the **** are you polishing a turd? dont even bother with it. J.K. Rowling is a ****** author.Predictable story, carboard characters and not to mention (had to break up due to limited TXT characters) deus ex machina is actually the main character

C:The series isn't about the story, its about money. Its just a money making scheme
E:I doubt that. James Bond is a series all about money, granted that some Bond movies are decent

C:The fact of the matter is, if she was a good writer, she could have finished it in like 4 books. but she's not

E:Generally every new york times best seller books have been good. hence the polishing the turd statement. if it looks good but smells like ****, which some of the books do smell like fish ****, then people tend to accept it as being good.
C:One of the greatest fantasy series is george martin's "a game of thrones" have you seen as much hype over that? No. You know why? Harry has better marketing
E:That's just it. the **** things, in this case according to you is harry ptter, get all the hype while those that truly deserve it go silently on their way without getting an ounce of attention.

E:Again it's true, but look at dirge( of cerberus). got all this ype for being a final fantasy game and it looked pretty even though the gameplay smelled like ****
C:Things should be popular based on their merrits, not who has the better advertising execs
E:If that was true then do you know how big the dragonlance series would be? An awesome series of book with many, many offshoots to it.
C:So you're trying to say that you want dragonlance to be popular, but you still try to justify harry piece of ****
E:both have niche fan bases. And for the record, dragonlance is a way better series than hp will ever be
C:and yet you still try to justify it? i don't get it. Do you like harry potter? if not, why are you trying to defend it?
E:I don't hate it and i'll leave it at that. I just happen to think dl is better than hp.
C:and you think its right that such a poorly written fad novel should RIGHTFULLY be popular?

E:They each ave their own niche fan bases that heavily support their favored product. So because of that and because harry potter is a successful movie series, hp is justified for having supposed ****** books.
E:but then again i've never read the hp books, so my entire argument goes out the window.
