E3 Musings and Introduction.

Hello, I'm bluelf. And as you can tell, I'm a new member of the Gamestop community. Before I get into my deeper thoughts about what I thought about E3, I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself a little. I've been a gamer since God knows when. My first system was actually the Intelleivision and not the NES. After that, I had a SNES, Genesis, Gamegear, PSX,PS2, and DS. As you can tell, I don't currently own any current gen hardware except for my PC. I've been sitting out this gen and waiting for the right time to get in kinda. The right time for me is when I can get a diverse set of games like I used to be able to get back in the PS2 days. I'm closer to that time imo, and will probably be joining this current gen, a bit late, sometime this year. Having said that, I keep up with the gaming industry pretty well, even if I have old gen stuff still. As far as my taste in games, I like anything except FPS and Action games mostly (I can make exceptions though). And for the PC, I mainly play Korean MMOs, and some stuff on steam. Now for my E3 musings. The Wii-U in my opinion is an interesting console, but for the moment I'm very cautious about it. While the controller is indeed very intriguing, Nintendo left a lot to be desired in terms of offering real substance for the core gamer. Three questions aren't answered yet. How much will it cost? What will the online system be like? Are there any exclusive third party games in the works? In response to the first question, I'm predicting a price range of $250-$300. Nintendo is trying to attract the core audience which they pretty much abandoned since the 64. With the PS360 already having a firm group on this audience, the Wii-U must be priced competitively to at least get them to take a look at it, otherwise they will stick to what is already out there. If they can't get them with the price, then they have to try to get them with exclusive third party games, which would be essential to the system holding its own or being the next Wii. Lastly, the Wii-U should have a decent online system. I have no idea what form it will take, but it's something core gamers will expect, and it could even be a hit amongst the casual audience if done right. So bottom line with the Wii-U is this, I have questions about it that need answering before I buy the thing and probably so do a lot of people. Do I think it will tank? No, but you can't rule out it not meeting expectations either. Again, Nintendo is taking a gamble in a market where they haven't competed in since the 64. A lot of has changed since then, and I don't believe it will be a walk in the park given the current gen competition it's trying to spar with. For Vita, there isn't much to say. It was what I expected it to be. The price came in exactly where I expected it to be at. There was no way Sony was going to charge more than $300 for a handheld when the PS3 cost that much. The two systems would be undercutting each other if they did, so it only made sense to make the Vita lower or equal from a logical standpoint. Other than that, I was hoping we would hear more concretely about launch titles, but I guess that would come at a later date. I still plan on getting one later. Gamewise, I felt all there companies were pretty decent this year, but non of them moved mountains with me. For MS, you had Halo as the highlight, Sony had the new Sly and Uncharted games, and Nintendo had a new Zelda.(which I don't care for at all). I felt this year was more about the games on the floor than what the individual companies had as surprises in their conferences. As far as the games I'm looking forward to they are Gravity, Bastion, Dragon's Crown, Bioshock Infinite, Sound Shapes, Journey, Sonic Generations, and ZOE collection. I'm probably missing a few more things, but that's pretty much all that impressed me during E3. I realize it's drastically different than most people who watched E3's coverage, but as I said, my taste typically negate most of the stuff that's shown at E3 with fanfare these days. I would add FF13-2, but I didn't like the first one, so no for me on that ;X Well, thanks for reading my blog. I realize it's not that great. I got no idea when I might do another. Hopefully it will be soon though. Until next time, Cheers. Leave a comment if you like or if you have suggestions. PS: On last thing. Expect this blog to cover niche things (if that isn't obvious already). Not weaboo(I know some of you were thinking about that) things necessarily, but I won't be covering stuff like Bioshock Infinite all the time. I've always been the niche type of gamer that likes to find hidden gems and odd **** to play. Nevertheless, I may mention bigger games now and then.
