@Shunjinko

There is no risk involved.  It is extremely easy.  In fact, I just finished replacing my 40GB with a $320 that I scored for $54.99using a copon I had for Newegg.  The system Utilities has a Backup utility that steps you through it.  I used n extra external drive I had lying around, and plugged it in (formattetd it to FAT32 first.  The PS3 Backup Utility stores everything on the external drive.  Unplug everything, take out the old one, plug in the new one, reboot, plug in the backup external drive again, do a system restore and you're back in business.  Seriously, the actrual HDD replacement took me three minutes.  Sony made it to be easy.  The side panel gives instructions on how to remove.  There is no risk of damaging anything.  The warranty is not voided.

Sony 40GB PS3 - $399

Larger HDD - $54.99

Total cost of upgraded system with 8x capacity - $453

Satisfaction of upgrading easily and cheaply - priceless

The character customization is pretty sick.  I was able to make my guy look just like me (with the help of my wife of course).  And the first thing I noticed was that nobody was fat.  In fact, I ran around asking why nobody was fat.  And I actually did run across a crowd of dudes dancing together in the mall chanting "sausage fest".  I'm not a social gamer.  I don't like myspace or facebook.  I don't talk to people I don't know, unless I've interacted with them for a long time on a forum of some sort.  I only game online with actual friends that I hang out with in the real world and the few forum friends I've come to know over the last couple of years.  I have no interest meeting up with virtual people and "hanging out" in cyberspace.

That being said, do I see an appeal to Home?  Certainly.  I would use it as my own personal space that I can connect with my friends that own a PS3.  It's innovative, especially the character customization.  My main interest is to see how it ties into games, music and movies down the line.  And I like having an avatar that looks just like me.  My buddy is doing his as I write this.  It's the virtual "us".  No funnly little guys with big round heads and lego arms and feet.  It just makes it so much more personal.  And it's FREE.  At least the download and basic stuff.
