I will be glad to help:
1. Does anyone else feel like gaming and the internet have taken a particular toll on your social life?
Yes, no doubt. I would say that I personally spend about 2 hours on videogames and 3 hours on the internet (just surfing) every day, or every other day. However, this habituation derives from an extended break that I am having from college. When school starts again in September, I will only be gaming for two-three hours a week if I am lucky. As for the internet, I will be using it on a regular basis to check e-mails and do researches.
Right now, I am dodging my friends to play video games. There is only so much time during the day, so I have to cut back on other normal social activities.
2. If given a chance to define gaming 'addiction', how would you ****fy it? How many playing hours is a reasonable limit?
My definition of gaming "addiction" is when an individual plays an excessive amount of video games, resulting in the person neglecting the important priorities in life. 4 hours a day is a reasonable limit, in my opinion. Though that does seem like a whole lot.
3. Has any other part of your life been effected by gaming (ex: ****work, exams, corporate work)?
I am assuming that this question asks if gaming has negatively influenced my schoolwork? I certainly do believe so. Whenever you're doing a certain activity, there is always an opportunity cost. This means that if I spend time playing video games, I am not utilizing that time for productive work. I always imagined in my head that my college G.P.A. would have been a lot better had I never touched video games my whole life. Oh well, I don't care much for my G.P.A. anyways and am glad to have gaming as a hobby.
4. Do you know anyone else you feel may exhibit symptoms of gaming addiction?
I have had roommates that I thought played too much video games during the school year; but since they were naturally gifted intellectually, video games did not seem to have much adverse effects on them. So, video gaming was a very healthy recreation for them. Otherwise, I have not met much people that examplify such symptoms of gaming addiction.
I guess my responses have been very generic. I honestly believe I don't have an addiction, but I might be in denial. People who have any type of addiction will rarely admit it. Good luck with your research work.
