1080 is the resolution
1080i is interlaced, 1080p is progressive
1080 is considered FULL HD, or i think sony called it the ONLY TRUE HD so 1080 res> 720 res
BUT for games P>I so even though 1080i is better resolution, 720p is a better picture for gaming( but 1080p OWNS them both)
1080 TVs are considerably more expensive than their 720 counterparts, for example that 42" insignia at 1080p is 1099, while 8 inches bigger 720p is the same price
Like I said 1080p is the best, period. However not too many things brodcast at 1080p yet. Most video games arn't 1080p, only a couple (CoD4, NBA 08 and a few others?) and HDtelevision through your satellite or cable box is 1080i. All Blu Ray movies are 1080p and those are AMAZING, so for now, thats where you get the most use out of 1080p
as for contrast rations, the bigger the better i think, shows more difference in colors, better colors

Good info Bro!!
I know the rankings of the best hookups. But, I do not have an HDtv, the bro does. So I'm looking to buy an S-Video for my TV and a HDMI for my Bro's. I'm just trying to figure out if it really matters what manufactor I choose, cause the price varies. Are they all the same?
Does it really matter which S-Video/HDMI cable I purchase? Don't they all do the same thing/quality?
