I've owned nearly every major console and handheld since the Atari days, and bought far more games during each console generation than the average gamer, and lately it's been the same for me. I haven't purchased a game since the day Gears of War and Guitar Hero II were released, though I used to buy several dozen games at full price every year (I own 20+ Xbox 360 games, all purchased in the console's first year on the market). I have even worked as a journalist in the industry, attending the last couple of big E3 events prior to this year, but now I'm not employed with any industry affiliate and have found myself paying less attention to industry news in general.
Still, this upcoming holiday season has a few releases that I have been looking forward to for some time now, and I can't help but get excited over the likes of Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Lost Odysseyand Crysis. However, though I have always bought a ton of games, the number of games that I actually complete is pretty low, so I'll likely end up buying every one of those titles and stop playing them after experiencing just a fraction of their content. That is exactly what I did throughout the last generation, as well...I purchased nearly every high-profile title on all 3 consoles, but quit playing most of them just a few hours in. Hell, even now, I own more than 25 games between my Xbox, 360, PS2 and GCN that I have not even tried yet, including some of the hottest titles of the generation.
Simply put, I need to win the lottery or something, so I can have the time to actually spend on gaming. I still count games as one of my hobbies, but it has honestly been 3 months or so since I last played a videogame outside of a social situation (Guitar Hero II).
