On Thursday night 3rd of May, the three year old Madeleine McCann was abducted sleeping in a hotel while her parents were eating in a restaurant. Police have confirmed she was abducted - but say they are hopeful she is still alive. She went missing from her bedroom in a holiday apartment in the town of Praia da Luz while her parents were eating in the hotel dining room 40 yards away. Madeleine was last seen by her father sleeping soundly at around 9pm on Thursday at the resort in the south-western Algarve.

CCTV footage of a woman and two men with a girl matching Madeleine's description at a nearby petrol station is being analyzed by police. Their car had British number plates. The possibility that she was snatched by kidnappers who took her out of Portugal and into Spain has galvanized support from the expatriate community there. Police are investigating whether a paedophile ring ordered the kidnap of McCann. Her parents are absolutely distraught, they left the child alone for twenty minutes and may never see her again.
