Things can only get better?

After a series of really depressing events around, and when I thought that things could only get better, I just had to get both of my pets under surgery. Those who know me a bit would guess how totally distressed have I been about this for the last two weeks :(

So, I took my cat to the vet for her annual vaccine. It prevents her from having whichever diseases are common to cats and she is also treated against both external and internal parasites. But she had a bit of temperature, and according to the vet it was because she was about being on heat which was right, so she preferred to wait until the heat was over for the vaccination. Kika is usually on heat for like 4-5 days, some 2 or 3 times a year, but much to my surprise, she kept on heat like for forever. For those who aren't familiar with the issue, cats have quite a hard time when they are on heat. Not Kika particularly, but they have. However, this last time was different and Kika was going like through a lot in her endless heat. So the vet told me that she probably had some cysts in her ovaries, which is usual in female cats that haven't been surgically deprived of their ovaries. So the best solution was to go through surgery. Great. I hated it but I want the best for my cat so I agreed :(

Then, I take my dog as well for his annual revision and vaccine. And my vet tells me that one of his testicles is looking funny for some reason I dunno how to explain it in English (it got attached to his groin, or something) and that he had some kind of a tumor which needed to be removed immediately. Great again. So I left both of my adorable little friends in their vet's hands and left home crying my heart out  The apartment was so empty without them, you can't even imagine. I was able to bring them both back home the next day, but that night was the most horrible night ever. I kept thinking of how scared should they feel, and if they thought that I had abandoned them, and if they were in pain, and how bad of an owner I am not having noticing that something was going on with Hotz. It wasn't really that noticeable but still :(

Apparently, both things are fairly common. So Kika's ovaries and her whole reproductive system were removed (she did have cysts) and Hotz's tumor together with his testicles were removed as well. Yesterday I knew that Hotz's tumor was benign, which was a great relief. Kika is allowed to lick her scar but Hotz isn't, so he has to wear one of those funny plastic thingies around his neck, which annoys him to no end. But since they usually team up, Kika would probably lick Hotz's scar so Hotz is staying at my bf's place while he is recovering. He is fine there, because he knows the house and the people and I spend a lot of time there every day. Kika wouldn't be any easy outside home. Cats are just different.

So that's the story and here I am, giving them their pills and hoping for them both to heal. Kika is perfect already. Hotz is taking it slowlier, but he is doing fine too. God, how much do we love our pets?

Hotz looked so sad the first days :( But he is all happy now :)
