i have both. i got gears when it first came out, halo3 when it first came out. i've logged way more time into gears than halo3 but some things are easy to see

Graphics - Gears by a long shot

Single Player - Gears

Co-op - Halo3, 4 man co-op = good time

Multiplayer - Halo3, they've perfected the multiplayer system for xbox live

Replay Value - Halo3, gears was a cake-walk on all difficulty levels, at least halo3 provides some difficult, skulls, and 4 man co-op are all good reasons to replay this game.

neither is a clear-cut winner. each is good at what it does, and each does different things well. neither has a huge negative. personally i like halo3. to me graphics don't make something fun. graphics make you think, "damn this looks real." Is this important? Yes. Integral to fun? Not to me.

if you are a fan of the "halo" series go with halo 3. hands down the best of the trilogy. i own both graw's. i like it for the realistic nature of the game but to me halo is a little bit more entertaining. graw2 should drop in price relatively soon anyhow seeing that it's been out for some time. I'd personally wait to get that. halo3 is also going to be solid online seeing that half of x360 owners are going to have this game.

no bs, but i have a launch system. not a "launch system" that someone may have bought a year or so after the launch date. i got mine the day it came out. circuit city ran an online deal that for 3 hours you could pre-order online. i got mine nov '05. the only issues i have ever had was when i dl'ed the new content for oblivion. after dl'ing shivering isles the game became glitchy whenever normal loading when roaming occurs. i bought a nyko intercooler and ever since then have had zero problems. i have never had the dreaded "red rings of death." the only thing that i can say is that i have always had the 360 in an area where it stays cool. its also not like the 360 hasn't been played. ive done 8 hour marathons with oblivion, GeOW, or bioshock. can honestly say that i may send the 360 in just to get it refurbed prior to the 3 year mark just so it can be "like new" again.

Samsung 61" DLP HDTV 1080p.  Gears and Oblivion are sick on it.
