A league of its own

Recently, I've invested an large amount of money in a high end gaming PC. When first setting it up, I habitually began to install a few AAA games- Battlefield, Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite- all beautifully polished games, both aesthetically and mechanically. However, as soon as I bench-marked the performance of my new rig, that was it. I was done with those games. Currently, I have over two hundred games in my Steam library; nothing sparked any motivation to play them. I only had one game in mind. The same game that I have been playing ritually for the past three years: League of Legends.

I wouldn't say I had an addiction to League, because it isn't having a negative impact on my life. In fact, quite the opposite- It's a free game, so it has saved me money (I haven't bought a single skin, i promise); it's allowed me to vent any negative energy in a positive environment, similar to a game of football; and to be brutally honest, it's an incredibly compelling videogame, despite the stigma that surrounds it.

Besides all of the minute intricacies beneath the surface of the game, its primarily quite basic- 10 players, two teams, one objective- and yet it still manages to consume the lives of over 27 million people on a daily basis. Do these people play other videogames? Probably. However, i'd argue that one factor always stays the same- League is a videogame that people are prepared to dedicate a large portion of their life to, which isn't something that many videogames can achieve. It detracts an abnormal amount of time from you; time that you could use to engage in other videogames or pastimes. Its entirely subjective regarding whether or not this is a good thing, but it's something that you need to be aware of before you decide to click that download button.

If you do decide to give League a go, make sure you give it the dedication it deserves before critiquing it. And if you don't like it...well, you cant say you've wasted any money.
