This is quite common in with some televisions. Apparently, what happens is that the TV is sending the signal for the "handshake" and the PS3 won't respond, so it retries at said regular intervals. The only solution for this problem is to unplug the HDMI cable from the PS3 while it is running a game and then plug it back in. Eventually it will successfully initiate the "handshake"

I'm gonna have to say FF3, LoZ:PHG, or Pokemon Diamond. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass wasn't as good as A Link to the Past, but it definately set the bar for the NintendoDS. Pokemon Diamond was the best in the series, and FF3 had a great storyline (much like the rest of the FF games) and was overall a great rpg. Any one of these would be a great choice.
