Gamer stats - A new feature that is becoming common in many new releases, and is considered a "must have" in upcoming games. But is this really a good thing to have? Here is how I see it.
The Good:
-It is an easy way to judge someone on their skill, thus making it easier to find other people who are equal to your skill level in match-making systems.
-It makes you want to play the game more, because the more you play, the higher your rank is and the higher your rank is...the more bragging rights you receive.
The Bad:
-Can make the game very hostile, as everyone wants to win a simple mistake can get you cussed out, and can even break up friendships.
-Un-ranked customs games and mods are sparse, as no one wants to play just for "fun" anymore. Taking away from the creativity of the community.
-The mmo grind. Players will play the same map that they can score high in over, and over again to help boost their stats. Making it seem as if the game only supports one map and game type.
-Cheating. Thats right, the drive to be on the top can even make people use exploits, such as maphacks, glitches, mods that will boost their health, armor, etc. Cheating by far ruins the game more than anything else, as no one wants to play a game where no matter what their skill is, they can't win.
So with that being said, are gamer-stats really what we need in the next generation of games? Sure, they are a cool addition to the multiplayer, but can create an unwanted vibe amongst players.
Until next time
