Perhaps today's most important revelation is the confirmation that the PS4 will come with a headset, which can plug into a dedicated headset jack on the bottom of the controller. Not shipping a headset with the PS3 was a major mistake for Sony, and has resulted in quieter chat lobbies than the Xbox 360 offers players.drakekratos

The PS4 will also work with current headsets.

The new Xbox One console will not include a chat headset in the box

The [Xbox One] incompatible with existing gaming headsets, including high-end audio products like those made by Astro Gaming, Turtle Beach, Tritton, and others.

Summary:

PS4 will come with a headset. Everyone who buys a PS4 will have a headset. The PS4 is also compatible with current-gen headsets, such as the Pulse, Turtle Beach, Tritton, and others. The Xbox One will NOT come with a headset. Xbox One is NOT compatible with current-gen headsets, such as the standard 360 headset, Turtle Beach, Tritton, and others.

Xbox One is compatible with all the virtual 5.1/7.1 surround sound headsets (Astro etc,) that use optical connections. Also, you can chat via Kinect. So while the 360 may not have a built in headset, every console comes with chat hardware. I don't see the problem.

Because the console is already $500 + tax.... then you'll have to pay another $60 for XBL if you want to use the console (even for offline games)..... then you'll have to actually buy some games..... possibly an extra controller.... By the time you've done all that, it's easily $700-$800 gone just on launch day. Many people won't bother buying a headset because they've already spent so much money... And using kinect to chat?? LMAO... thats a MASSIVE problem.

You don't need Xbox Live to play your games, just an internet connection of epic 28k proportions. In other words, you could use a cell phone if you had a CAT5 cable connecting it to your Xbox. You only need broadband and an Xbox Live Gold account to play multiplayer. Consider this in your cheap pricing: Originally leaked SKUs for the PS4 all included a Playstation Eye. Developers have mentioned that there are no more accelerometers in the controllers (only rotation gyros) and that the Eye handled the motion sensing better anyway. That means that a LOT of games will have motion controls included (likely not required, but for things like leaning around corners in CoD:G, etc) but since Sony decided to get cheap the motions controls can't be considered standard for all users. XB1 has controller motion sensing in addition to the full body sensing, and all developers can rely on that fact. IF the devs support this on PS4, you'll need to spend an extra $60 for it. PS Vita is the official solution to touch-screen controls, secondary views, etc. To utilize this functionality you need to drop down $250 minimum for the device. If you use it for gaming as well, we'll consider half the reasoning for the purchase to be PS4 features. Add $125 to the price of a PS4 in this case, for full advertized functionality. XB1 as well as PC (SmartGlass is confirmed to be PC portable) both let you use the $100-800 device you already own for this same functionality. Add nothing to your XB1 purchase price. Playstation Plus is required to play online games using developer servers. Xbox Live is required to play online games using crap-tons of Microsoft servers using proven matchmaking, support Netflix, Last.FM, and the like using apps Microsoft builds and maintains (they run better than the rest) and with Microsoft HOSTING the services. You get four levels of quality for video on Netflix everywhere. You get 108 levels with hardware blending of streams on 360 and likely XB1. The service is improved and you pay for those improvements. Sony decides you pay for just multiplayer and stats hosting, with free bargain-bin can't-sell-them-on-shelves-anymore games to mask an overpriced service. Add $60 / year to the PS4, add $50 / year to XB1 if older user or $60 / year if not. Total for each for a year with full advertised functionality and generous price consideration? XB1: $550 or $560 PS4: $645 Verdict? XB1 is actually $100 cheaper and Sony yet again announced a $600 system. Take it all with a grain of salt though. Not everyone cares about media stuff, motion controls, second screens, or the like. However I'm pretty damn sure that with half of EA and Ubisoft games showing off deep second-screen capabilities Sony is really just pulling a Blu-Ray and trying to use their gaming set-top console to sell their other products as well (Vita in this instance). A year down the road I'm foreseeing a load of Vita users where there are quite few currently, and not because it's a compelling and well-priced standalone product.

Let's see-- My Astro MixAmp and headset can output USB sound... Xbox One controller uses USB Micro A for the sound port... 360 controller, according to PC, uses a generic USB audio card for sound... I think we'll all just end up not giving a damn because it's just a plug change. Astro will likely make a splitter for power and audio signals most or something similar, and anyone can make a USB audio card about the size of the XB1 headset puck that has a traditional 2.5mm jack instead. If Microsoft went to Dolby Headphone simulated 5.1 and stereo speakers with two mics for noise canceling I might give a damn since the actual hardware I own would be incompatible. In reality it's only a plug and the other parts are the same (though higher than 4-bit ass quality not that it's USB). Big whoop.
