Call fo Duty 4 Packaging (XBOX 360)

Looking closer at the Call of duty 4 packaging for Xbox 360 I noticed that the storage required symbol does not specify any type of storage. A memory card and hard drive are shown, which could mean a hard drive is still optional. The question I have if that is true then why have the image there in the first place since everybody knows to save data you need a storage device. If new games are going to require the hdd then I don't think that its a big deal because most people would have the Premium SKU. This just makes the choice that MS likes to talk so much of seem pointless.

Call of duty Xbox 360 packaging, what type of storage?

New Look

Yes I know I may have infringed on the hostspot copyright, but I thought I'll call my blog the Hotspot to give it the wow factor. No Xfactor. When is that coming back on anyway, hopefully soon :P.

The new blog header I have made only causes more problems because of a little white lie. Of course i'm not being sponsored by gamespot UK, but it helps when not many vistors are checking out my profile.

I like that gamespot have increased the size of the profile image. You can now have greater detail pictures to show off in the forums / comment listings.

Some users, though might not mean it, have serious bad taste when choosing profile images. for example [censored], now I don't want to bad mouth any gamespot users, but that image is - to coin a phrase - "BELOW STUPID".

I have to get back to work now before the sun appears again, don't pay any attention to this, i'm half a sleep. Good night

Unreal Competition

This generation console war between Xbox 360 and PS3 is not just between MS and Sony, but also the graphic card makers, Nvidia and ATI.

Of course Unreal Tournament 3 was going to be made available on the Xbox 360 someday. Epic and Midway would not have missed on the financial payback from the 360’s 10 million and growing user base. However, I think they would have released it around half a year later if it was not for the PS3 slow movement into the channel and Gears of War doing really well on the 360.

My theory for why the PS3 is preferred over the 360 is that Epic created the unreal engine to be optimised for Nvidia graphic cards and so they may have a strong relationship with each other. This would explain the support that Sony were getting from Epic at E3. Since Nvidia have partnered with Sony to create the RSX Video card for the PS3, Epic may have felt inclined to do a short exclusivity deal for the platform. That is, no mentioning of the 360 release until a few months after releasing the game.

At the moment Epic are happy to talk about the 360 release, which is very severe for Sony because the PS2 was popular due to the name and the exclusive games that came to be synonymous with the system. Losing more exclusive titles to Microsoft and the fact that there is a higher price to pay many gamers will soon be forgetting the name "Playstation" as an embodiment for great gaming experiences. Nvidia may then lose out to ATI, which produces video cards for Microsoft and Nintendo, within the console space.

The PS3 still has a chance to win back gamers attention and buying power, but it will take a great exclusive IP to do it, maybe even two or three. I would presume that Nvidia and Sony are working hard to make development much simpler for developers, especially for internal studios that are creating follow ups to well known franchises. Killzone and Shadow of the Colossus come to mind. It is still early to predict an outcome; PS3 has not yet come out in Europe and other parts of the gaming world. It’s more an investment for many people right now than a true worthwhile purchase.

Diehard fans will disagree most definitely to my view. I just would like to say to them that I hope it will work out for Sony in the long run. As usual competition is what drives any market and without it consumers are the ones who suffer. If the PS3 costs £425 in the UK with heavy competition imagine what the price would be for the system if the others did not exist. So at least be grateful for Nintendo and Microsoft for just that, a more affordable PS3.

Dry year for games until december 15 2006

Ever since The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion came out this year, in the UK, no other game released so far has me excited over the prospect of taking it home, and having a game play marathon for many hours in one sitting.

I can already hear the cries from people thinking what about Gears of War, Final Fantasy XII or even Splinter Cell Double Agent? thats just some of the many good games that this year has produced, right?

Well let me explain my predicament, I owned an Xbox and still have a Gamecube (Yeah I know it sucks :(). Lets face it, no xbox games where coming out that are considered to be great/prefect, so I sold the big black box in a car boot sale (No boots where ever sold and yes I have heard of ebay). I thought the earlier the better before prices plummeted for the damn thing. So why didn't I invest in a new shiny white inhale - or is it Exhale, I forget - Xbox360. Living in Europe you have to have a whole bucket load of patience, especially if you want to see how well the next generation (still using next instead of current since the WII and PS3 haven't arrived over here) consoles do on store shelves side by side.

I only buy one console near launch and then get any other system with good games after some serious price cuts (I only got the Cube for LoZelda and RE4, how sad:?). I wish I had more money to waste like many gamespot users, which seem adamant to get at least two on day one.

The good thing is I have been able to focus on work, which is important if i want to spend £425 ($835.64) on the PS3, and at the moment that will be for one reason MGS4 (Crazy!!).

So whats important about the 15 of December you ask? Well the 12/15/06 use to be 11//05 then 3//06 and then 7//06 soon after it changed to the 11//06. One day it became 12/8/06, this is when I thought, thats it no more delays (I was wrong and my expression turned from :x to  ). On the 12/15/06 The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is FINALLY released for the Gamecube. A game that I have waited two years for. Whats worse is this year has been so dry Im beginning to believe Global Warming has hit the gaming industry hard. I guess this is what happens when there is a transition between generations of consoles.

[update] Thats it, no more waiting, Im borrowing a PS2 off a mate as soon as possible and playing Shadow of the Colossus and every other game that I have missed. Why is it that the oldest last longest?? Maybe history might repeat itself, who knows.
