Because it takes an insane amount of talent, money, time, and organization. Then on top of that you better be creative and have mass market appeal. World of Starcraft is IMO the next step.

Feeling a bit nostalgic for a deep and challenging RPG or MMORPG. I have a 3DS, an XBOX 360 and a high end gaming laptop. I would prefer a game for the 3DS or the PC.
Never finished Earthbound 2. Should I play that? I got really close to the end so I'm not sure if its worth starting all over for.
Can't seem to finish Borderlands 2, but just completed 5 games in my backlog so I don't feel required to finish it any time soon.
Pokemon Black 2 looks like fun but I don't want to burn out on pokemon before pokemon X and Y come out. You guys think that might be an issue? I have played every pokemon game in the series it would be strange for me to miss this one.
Then theres all the other 3DS games out there that might be worth playing...man I really need some advice!
In the meantime I guess I will keep playing dota 2 while I've got the win-streak going.

I'm currently playing Tales of the Abyss on 3DS. I'm really enjoying it, but it's not too challenging. However, I've heard Etrian Odyssey IV on the 3DS is really good. It's supposed to be very accessible but still very challenging. there's also Shin Megami Tensei IV, which, again, I've heard is quite challenging.
Black 2 is only a neccessity if you haven't played Black or White (in this case I'll assume you've played Black). It's still enjoyable, and has some cool new additions, but unless you feel you absolutely need to play it, I'd say just wait until X and Y. IMO it's not worth spending the extra money on, especially with release day just a few months away.
And if you aren't opposed to DS RPGs, the Dragon Quest series is always worth looking into (IX would be the best to get for the most value). They aren't terribly challenging, but they are tons of fun (IV, V, VI and IX are the main series games on the DS). Although Dragon Quest IX gets to be quite challenging if you dive into the post game. There's also a game that's not strictly RPG, but Knights in the Nightmare is amazing. It's a hybrid of RTS, RPG and bullet hel shooters... I'd reccomend doing research if you want to look into it, because the game is extremely complex (the tutorial is about an hour and a half long). But if you don;t mind something different and stick with it, it will provide a great experience.
Hope all this helps.
thanks man ill check out that Knights in the Nightmare for sure.

Man, Totally different. They are with in the same realm of thoughts and ideas, but with all Final Fantasy's they very much different. I'll say one thing, I played FFXI for many years and Played FFXIV for a good year and half, that Final Fantasy MMO's are brutal. They are not your typical run of the mill MMO. They have a pretty steep learning curve and consist of a lot of grinding.
It's battle system will typically seem outdated, to most people. It does not follow the standard WoW model. It's slower paced. It's class system is superb. One character can play all classes, and as you level up higher and obtain more abilities, you can mix abilites to fit your play style.
FFXIV was a HOT MESS when it came out originally. I hope that this new release of it "Realm Reborn" is remastered. I'am excited to give it another go, yet not holding my breath. To enjoy this game you must like MMO's, and be ready to dedicate some time to it. If your not ready to do that, its a waste of money.

I'll say this, I played many an MMO in my day as well as some JRPGs like golden sun, dragon quest IX, pokemon, tales of symphonia...
but never played through a full blown grind JRPG. Is it really a lot worse grind-wise? What makes it more appealing than say a western MMO?
Played Crystal Chronicles and enjoyed it greatly. I got a beta invite for Phase three of FFXIV (PC) and so far my only experience with the final fantasy series has been Crystal Chronicles for gamecube back in the day. Very excited to play this beta if it is up this weekend.
Yes I realize its a different genre but I am hoping that there will be some fun crossover or at least allusions to FFCC? Or is this just a totally different universe?

you...what have you done...
I cannot recommend this game enough. Just played my 250th game and I am still loving how much there is to the game. The only problem is that you will be blamed for anything that goes wrong if you are a solo player and your team is in a group. Still, ignore the naysayers and haters and learn how to play this absolutely fantastic gem.

I am just in a really "social-gaming" mood even though normally I love games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Fallout and Witcher.Darth_Kane
Star Wars: The Old Republic

If you never tried WoW then I would say give it a try.
SWTOR and Rift would be the other two that are pretty darn good imo.

I got swtor, GW2, WoW, Age of Conan all at launch. WoW and Age of Conan were the only two that I plyed to cap and didn't regret.
Guild Wars 2 isn't really about cap. Regardless of level area's and dungeons will cap the player down.
indeed. I think GW2 brought into the genre a style of gameplay and leveling that was a necessary breath of fresh air. Problem was after WoW it felt lacking in "character". WoW and Age of Conan (and I will admit SWTOR too) had a better setting and overall personality to them.
Take a look at PlaneShift.

thats definately a change of pace from the traditional AAA mmo that im used to playing. I will have to at least check it out simply out of curiosity. I like the open source idea since I am a CS major I could definately have some fun with it.
