"Harding-Rolls estimations have revealed that thePS5 has not only outsold the Wii U's lifetime salesbut has also moved nearly twice the number of units that Microsoft's consoles have. Harding-Rolls has estimated that the Xbox Series console family has cumulatively sold 10.3 million units. The analyst also noted that the majority of these sales figures consisted of Xbox Series S consoles, as the less powerful console proved to be much easier to get hold of than the Xbox Series X.
While Microsoft's figures are just an estimation at this point, it seems as though Sony's console is still outperforming the Xbox Series consoles. Previous estimations noted that the Xbox Series consoles had moved around 12 million units, however, Harding-Rolls is under the impression that the number of consoles that have actually reached consumers is likely closer to 10.3 million."
No, but that's how corporate policy works. If the boss at the top states "we want live service games", don't be surprised when you've suddenly got a bunch of live service games in the pipeline. You don't have to micro manage to encourage your subordinates to operate within certain guidelines. That's the point of policy.
Then it doesn't seem like that bad microtransactions and always live are policies at Sony games because GT7 is the only PS5 exclusive so far that have these.
If you are indicating that Sony has made bad microtransactions and always live as policies mandated by the top, we'd see a lot more first party PS5 games with these by now.
@chaosbrigade: In the article you provided it reads only "estimated" number of Xbox consoles sold. I doubt you can take this seriously to a "factual" debate.
Since MS/Xbox value their engagement in the gaming industry different than Sony, the console sales are not the only thing which are representative about the success of the Xbox brand.
Its like counting only physical sales of a game to determine its success and ignoring the digital sales at the same time.
2021 sales stats. PS5 outsells XBX by more than 50%, and I'm willing to wager the fact that PS5 is literally sold out almost everywhere pushes a lot of XBX sales.
@Barighm: My buddy's name is Eric Wong, he is currently a senior environment artist and level designer for Bioware. Also what I said isn't some revolutionary ground breaking expose on the inner workings of Bioware. Pretty sure several high profile former employees have come out and confirmed pretty much what I just said.
Sony is a multibillion global company that also sell electronics, TV, gadgets, they have to manage tens of thousands of employees + contractors + suppliers + manufacturers, and no they neither have the time nor attention to check up on every single detail of all their first party games.
You think Sony and Microsoft are just some overarching all-seeing and all-knowing conglomerates that can micromanage and have to approve every single decision regarding the mechanics of all their projects. That's just not how management of a multi-billion multinational corporation works.
Sony made $82 billion USD revenue in 2021. Gran Turismo's budget, and I'm being generous here, was probably $100 million? Do you really think Sony would care too much about a $100m project when they are managing $82 billion? No.
Case in point, everyone thought it was Activison's fault that Destiny had such bad grind and microtransaction policies. But after Bungie came out of contract with Activision, the grind in Destiny 2 actually got worse under Bungie's management, not better. It shows that the grind was Bungie's idea all along, not Activision's, or if Activision came up with it, Bungie 100% supported it.
@johnny0779: Yes, they don't. That's not how management of a multi-billion multinational corporation works, lil buddy 😘

@Barighm: You don't need to believe it, but it's the truth. I live in Edmonton and one of my closest buddies have been working in Bioware for the past, I'd say almost 10 years? He joined right after ME3 was finished and he knew all about what happened behind the scenes.
EA actually has given and still is giving Bioware virtually free reins over all their projects. Bioware management and writers never even thought to tell EA the endings of ME3, EA had to find out from reviews. The disastrous ME Andromeda was also all of Bioware's doing. EA actually gave them almost a year of delay.
EA gets a lot of hate and sometimes it's for good reasons, but sometimes it's also not their fault at all and people just don't know what really happened behind the scenes. EA management is just a convenient scapegoat for everything that goes wrong with their games.
