Never played any of the stalker games, managed to get a go on the russian version of Pripyat. Lets hope that the english version is better, i can set all settings to high in DX10 with X4 AA however there is a re-occuring lag that is obviously to do with bugs. I really struggled to get into it and after being killed a few times by radiation i turned it off dissapointed. Like i said i havnt played any of the stalker games so there is no loyalty/bias in my opinion, personnaly this wont be a game that i will be buying even if they do fix it dramatically.

Why is a shadow such a big deal?

Well if u see a shadow cast by something eg a bush or tree. Then u wud expect if u stood next to the tree either side and looked in the same direction as the sahdow is projected you wud also expect to see a shadow from the player. Just as u would in real life. I mean i am sure ur not gunna stand there looking at ur players shadow going ohh thats so cool, even if there was a projection lol. It jus makes it feel more real if u see a shadow coming from urself aswell as the objects around you. Far cry 2 is a good game dont get me wrong its just slighlty annoying that pretty much everything casts a shadow bar the player.

Plus if ur playing it in hd on a XFX GTX260 Black Edition on a 40 inch Samsung tv and u realise its going to annoy you pretty bad lol
