Old news noob.
[QUOTE="chefstubbies"]It's funny you should mention that...I just played the Wii a couple days ago and had to do a system update, and it took all of a minute.
But then today I go to Zellers, HMV, EBgames, and nobody has Mario Galaxy. I try downtown and still, nobody has it. Then I try back at the mall just after 12, and EBgames had a pile. I happily purchased my copy and went straight home, only to endoure a full episode of Diego's Rescue Pack...then it was my son's nap time, so I put in the Mario Galaxy disc and...
"An error has occured. Please eject your disc and turn off power to the console and refer to the Nintendo troubleshooting guide for assistance." That's what was on my tv screen. So I ejected the disc, turned the console off...turned the console back on and put the disc in to see if it would work the second time around. The Wii made this horrible coffee grinder like noise and wouldn't acknowledge that a disc was supposed to be being read.
So I clicked on the Wii channel screen on where Mario Galaxy should have been, and it showed a gamecube disc? and Prompted a Wii System Update. So I did the update which took all of thirty seconds, and it's played like a charm sinse.
It was quite a scare for a game I was excited to play, and I had told my daughter that if she was good all weekend, I'd pick up Mario Galaxy. So I was pretty choked at the possibility of my Wii breaking down the day I get Mario Galaxy.

Uh, I'm pretty sure you have to do a system update whenever you put a new game in. I remember it happening with MP3, too.
It's only first party games that utilize the Wii in a different way. You don't update for all Wii games, that'd be rediculous.
