The Old Republic won't dethrone WoW. There aren't enough Star Wars fans that are willing to fork over the subscription fee each month to play the game to dethrone it. WoW is pretty much a magnet for casuals.
You'll get a lot of different answers depending on whom you ask. If you want an RPG, your best bet will be Dragon Age Origins, granted you like WRPGs, personally, I don't, but a lot of people do and you might. For FPS, there are different choices. My favorite is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Cherynobyl, the single player game is quite good. An FPS that is really underrated is Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Solid game that is overshadowed by many other games on the market right now.
