After a crazy week, some great (and well deserved) rest...

The week before last was crazy!!! I had two huge tests, math and chemistry, and I hardly slept at all cause I was studying so hard for them... I concentrated more on math because it is my weakest subject, and I think it was a big mistake, I probably didn't do very well on the math test, and if I score less than 3 I'm already on exam at the end of the semester... In chemistry though I did reasonably well, eve if I left two questions without answer, but I could've done a lot better if I had studied for it just a little more:(

After that the week ended perfectly, with a party to celebrate the 35th birthday of the Chemistry Academic Directory (or something like that), each course has it's own, with and elected president, vice-president, and other members. The party was great and I got just a little bit drunk, cause I went straight from the chemistry test and I hadn't eaten anything for a long time:lol:

This week we had a regional holiday only in my state, to celebrate the GaĆŗcho traditions. It is a crazy holiday, cause it is suppose to commemorate de Farrapos war between 1835 and 1845. People from our state fought to be independent from Brazil and lost, so I don't see the point to celebrate a lost war. But now it is more of a day to eat the Brazilian barbecue, listen to local music and celebrate the gaĆŗcho traditions. The holiday was on Thursday but I skipped c_lass on Wednesday to rest for longer, even though I had to go to c_lass on Friday, it was a great rest and I slept most part of Wednesday and Thursday:D And the icing in the cake was that my in-laws are away since Tuesday, so me and the Bf have the house to ourselves for the first time in almost a year:twisted: Too bad they are coming back Sunday night, and another week comes, this time with the grades from my tests!!!!

And how was your week, guys???

CAN'T BELIEVE CSI AND CSI:NY ARE BACK THIS WEEK!!!!

Huge Hugs and Kisses for all

Happy Independence Day Brazil!!!!!

So Friday was our independence day! In a famous scene by the Ipiranga River on 7 September 1822, Prince Pedro, riding his horse, tore the Portuguese blue and white insignia from his uniform, drew his sword, and swore in the presence of his guard of honour: "By my blood, by my honour, and by God: I will make Brazil free." Then he cried "It is time! Independence or Death! We are separated from Portugal". Those words constituted Brazil's Proclamation of Independence. The "Independence or Death" cry would become the motto of the Brazilian emancipation. And since then, we celebrate our independence:D

There were big parades in every major city around the country, and unfortunately I couldn't atted the one in my town because I'm going crazy, studying for a math test I have on Wednesday:cry: But I managed to get some pictures of the Biggest parade the one in our Capital, Brasilia.

Here are the Brazilian President and the Fist Lady, Lula and Marisa.

Some policemen at the parade, making a pyramid (how can they stay that way in a moving motorcycle is beyond me:lol: )

A little of our folklore

And some aerial acrobats, the "esquadrilha da FumaƧa" or the Smoke Squad:D

After the parade, the President received a Chopper Motorcycle, as a gift from the Senior family, from the American Chopper TV Program. They donated the Bike to be auctioned and the money is to go to the president's Fome Zero (Zero Hunger) social program.

The design of the Bike was based on the lines of the Government Palace and the Congress Towers, in Brasilia

My weekend was terrible, I studied most of the time, and to top it all I have some kind of allergy in my eyelids and they are killing me!!!! They itch so much!!!! The doctor gave me some eye drops that I have to put every two hours, day and night for six days!!!!!! So I'm even more sleep deprived than I was before:?

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!!

Happy Friends Day!!!!

Well, I don't know about the rest of the world, but here in Brazil today we celebrate FRIENDS DAY... not the series.... we usually send cards, or emails to our closest friends saying how much we like to have them as friends and go out with our friends to have a drink and hang out. It's very fun, even though most ppl go out with their friends every time, today is a day to get even closer to your friends and celebrate you friendship.

So I want to share this with you all and tell all my tv.com friends how much I like you all guys, it's been really fun to meet you all here, and even though I've been absent from the forums I really love you guys and miss talking to many of you that don't come very often to my blog.

Now it's Official!!!

Yay!!! I'm a college freshmen!!!!! Again!!!! And I do hope this time is the last time...
I know I've done this before, but I'm so excited!!! It is not my forst choice, I really wanted to major in Biology, but it is tougher to get into this course at most public colleges, so I'm doing Chemistry instead, and maybe if I'm really lucky I can get a transfer later on *crosses fingers*.

Let me tell you about college in Brazil and my college adventures:lol: Over here it is much tougher to get into a college than in most countries, you have to take a test, in all major subjects, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Literature, History, Geography, Portuguese and a foreign language, you have 25 questions of each subject and they are spread over four days, ou have four hours each day and two or three subjects per day this process is called vestibular - don't ask me why. As there are too many ppl for too little "vacancies", even if you score really well it's not guaranteed you'll pass, most courses have like 10 to 15 pll fighting for each opening, medicine and law have more than 20! So you have to be a genius to ge in one of those.
Biology, my dream career, have around 15 candidates per spot, I tried like five times or so to get in, but was never good enough to get it, always missed by just a few points:cry:

We have private colleges too and I tried two of them, the first time I did two semesters of journalism, just out of curiosity. I was 19 at the time, had just flunked the vestibular for the second time, and the private college didn't offer a biology course so I decided to do anything, just to keep busy:D I dropped out when I decided to move to London for the fist time (and because it was too expensive anyway). Moved to London and stayed there for a year and a half, I was about to start college there (colleges in London are more affordable than over here:shock: I could afford it even in a waitress salary) but then my then BF decided to move to a more expensive flat and it whipped out all my savings, a month later he kicked me out with not even a penny to move to another place. I called my dad crying and he sent me a ticket to come home, which I had to do:(

Back home I met a wonderful guy, my current BF and he was a freshmen in a private college, he was majoring in, guess what? BIOLOGY!!! Yes, he is my soul-mate:D the next semester I was in the same college, but after just two semesters there, I started to get difficulties paying the tuition, and me and my BF had to drop out (he was having difficulties even before me). As we were both unemployed and has dropped out of college, we decided to go to London! I thought this time would be easier:? But after four months and a series of very unfortunate events, we had to come back home...

After all this, public college is all that's left for me, and seeing as I don't want to sit and wait till I get into biology, I decided to take the vestibular for a less popular course and the chosen one was chemistry, since I can take many c_lasses that are comon to the biology course and maybe someone drops out and I can take a test or something and transfer, and until there I'm going to keep trying for biology every summer:)

Finally!!!! I'm back!!!

Hello guys!!!! How is everyone??? So I came back on Wednesday, but my computer was mad with me or something and refused to work, only yesterday night My BF was able to make it work again...
As promised, I'll tell you all about my very fruitful trip to the Magic Island:D

Let's star with the motive that made me go to a beach in the middle of winter:lol: some years ago when my mum died, I inherited her apartment there in Florianopolis. Since I was not sure about where in the world I wanted to live, I decided to rent the place until I decided to settle down. Seven years and many cites and countries later, I'm back in my home town and living with the in laws:D so I decided it was time to sell the apartment and buy one over here for me to live, since I plan to live over here for at least four years (till I graduate).
I had to go over there to have a look at what shape the place was, and talk to the real-state guys, and to get a more recent copy of all the documents from the apartment, but this doesn't mean I didn't have time to have some fun:lol:

Enough said about the boring part:D This is Florianopolis, it is ans island, but it is so close to the mainland that it can be crossed back and forth through a 6 Kilometers bridge as you can see on the map and in the picture below:)

The bridge in the left is the old one, and it is now closed it is somewhat similar to the Golden Gate bridge, but way smaller:D and the ones in the right are the new ones, one for each way.

This is how the Old Bridge looks like at night, it's really beautiful

What I love most about this Island, and that's why I think the natives call it the Magic Island, is the fact that you have all in the same place, you have a busy and well developed city like any other

and you have the all beaches, 42 in total, some of them almost completely untouched

and some of them bursting with activity, full of tourists

Some of them are perfect for relaxing

and some are perfect for surfing

So there is a place for every one and for every taste:D

And if you don't like salt water, there is the Lake

This is a panoramic view of Laoga da ConceiƧao, and the arrows point to the ocean behind it, the two beaches are Joaquina and Mole

And this concludes my presentation of the wonderful Florianopolis, the Magic Island:lol: I hope you all enjoyed it, and maybe one day you can come and visit:D
