@Riddick123 @DerpTrollington And maybe we should start saying its not okay to have bad manners. And that people who are complete dicks (like yourself) get executed on the spot.
@Karzovis Have you seen pro gamers? Most of them are not at all how you described. You are describing a stereotype of normal gamers. So not even completely accurate there either. Nice to know that you are a closed minded and bigoted type person though.
Gamers are not athletes, but if you had a brain cell, you'd realize this is just semantics so they don't have to rewrite the law to say "Professional Game Player" because that's all anyone who plays any type of sport is. A person who plays game to make money. That's why eSports players and poker players are being given the same rights.
I'm sorry you are completely jealous that some kids are living their dream job, making 100s of thousands while you are at a dead end retail job making 20k, but seriously...grow up.
@Kyere You are judging a game by its community of EVERYONE THAT PLAYS IT. While judging professional sports only by those that get paid to do it.
People who get paid to professionally play LoL, CoD, DotA, etc are way different. Its like judging bastketball based on a game of Streetball you saw in the ghetto. Its a complete false equivalency and you're making yourself look dumb defending it.
@Kyere @colt_a The NFL, NBA, NFL, etc don't exist to celebrate the "perfection" of the human physical form. Not at all. They exist to make money of off the viewer. Through advertising, merchandise, ticket sales etc. This is the same exact way that every other gaming market works.
You're trying to romanticize something because a long time ago, that's how it used to be. Professional football, basketball players aren't all sportsman like either. There is no entitlement issues here either. They simply want to be able to travel unimpeded to their events. The same exact way other pro athletes who get paid (way too much I might add) to play a game get to.
You're using the same type of argument that bigots use to 'defend' marriage against gays, or the right to vote for women, or non-white land owners. We can all agree these people aren't athletes. But that doesn't mean they should get treated differently for doing the same job as athletes (Playing a game professionally for a living).
@stkennedy Because there isn't a law that says pro gamers get visas. They'd rather not waste money making or rewriting what exists. In this case, the government is literally saving the taxpayer money.
This comment thread is really showing just how dumb gamers are. Its sad.
The government isn't considering them professional athletes for any physical ability. They are just calling them that to give them the same rights. Poker players are recognized as professional athletes. It just prevents them from having to rewrite the law to say 'professional game player'.
There's really no real reason that a basketball team should get any different rights than a professional poker player or a professional gamer. Its all the same profession. Playing a game well and getting paid to appease an audience that likes watching said game.
