@ExtremePhobia Even then, its a gimped version of the real MTG.
Its not the entire core set, planeswalkers have again been left out, and the deck building has been gimped on purpose (you can only have 2 uncommons, 1 rare of the same type per deck). They also gutted every game mode except for FFA.
Duels of the Planeswalkers doesn't hold a candle to Hearthstone, and that's from someone who thinks MTG is the superior game.
@DariusMKN Plenty of people were asking for a different review.
A game with a terrible UI, zero guidance on basic game mechanics (not asking for hand holding, just how to play the game) and no real story doesn't deserve a 9. Hell, playing this game without the aid of the wiki to tell you how to make gear choices (since the game doesn't explain how stat scaling works on gear) is just an excercise in frustration
I love this game, I'm 70 hours in. But its a 6-7 at best. How can I say that? Because I realize that this game violates every principle of basic game design. Any game that has the player struggling to understand what and how they are supposed to be doing something, rather than the challenge of actually doing it is poor design.
@Zambash Since DotA is so superior for people with skill, why aren't there DotA teams rolling in and taking the MILLIONS of dollars offered every year from LoL? Oh right, because its not a less skilled version of DotA.
People who play DotA can't stand change, which is why they've been playing the same exact game for the last 13 years. Now with improved graphics (but the same bugs!) in DotA 2.
@Armoured_Mage The original review was a review of the game 4 years ago. It was buggy, imbalanced, graphically and graphically terrible. It deserved the 6 it got.
Since then they've added 3 (soon to be 4) new maps / gamemodes (most MOBAs just stick to 1). Massively improved the graphics. The game is extremely balanced, and it the top eSport in the World. It also has the best free to play system of any free to play out there.
Just like it deserved the 6 then, it deserves the 9 now.
@callsignalpha You spend more on console games than you would on Steam (or any other digital PC service). That 500-600 dollars you save up front will be lost over the generation paying 60+ dollars for every AAA title that comes out. On PC many of them are 50 dollars on day one, followed by a price reduction within 2 months to 30 or less. You won't ever see that on consoles as long as they are based on physical product.
Not to mention all the PC exclusive features you get with games (namely mods). Or the fact that the PC can be used for much more than gaming.
@GONtheSKYLORD Nvidia stepped out of the console manufacturing business voluntarily. They simply said its not worth what console makers are willing to pay and they'd rather focus elsewhere.
Sure are only saying this because their major competitor is in every console this coming gen, but it is factually correct.
