The best way is definitely waiting for a next gen copy if you are getting a next gen console.

The PS3 versions of these games are coming out only a month sooner, sometimes less than that. Have some patience and save 10 to 30 dollars.

You can easily buy and upgrade watchdogs with the Gamestop deal, beat it, and give it to your friend afterwards for less money.

But by all means, if you want to donate to Sony's coffers just because you can and you don't care about money, that's your right.
