When I preordered at GameStop last night they told me it was out today, but wouldn't be sold until tomorrow. Seemed odd to me.firefly026
Meaning that they're not shipping it to you until tomorrow? Weird.. I ordered from Amazon and they're getting ready to ship it now..

Yeah, unless you're really into balancing out good performance with good graphics quality, you don't need to mess with them. There are a few games that perform better with enhanced AA instead of in-game AA, or different modes of AFR or SFR, but it doesn't sound to me like you're worried about that.

All of those settings are predefined by the Nvidia driver and should be the most efficient rendering method. It's best to leave those alone, unless you know what you're doing.

The PhysX card is not a video card. It's a PPU (Physics Processing Unit), sort of like a dedicated CPU for physics. Not many games use PhysX, plus the card will not render graphics on its own.

Wait.. Didn't he say whoever was the most creative, not whoever needs it the worst?

define Crulend.player

define HL2.game

Action REQUEST Crulend HL2

show "Do you accept?" x1,x2

x1 = ACCEPT REQUEST Crulend HL2

x2 = DENY REQUEST Crulend HL2

Well, I'm not really an expert at writing code, so please don't tell me it's wrong. I made it up.. :P

I've read a bunch of performance reports. Based on those (in the majority of cases):

- DX10 is supported, but doesn't run that well (keep an eye out for optimizations

- DX9 in XP runs better than the beta

- DX10 in Vista x64 crashes, although a few people have reported success (no performance data at this time)

- Quad cores are not being utilized

Based on the latest info that I've seen, I'm guessing I'll be able to run Ultra (if it's available) @ 2560x1600 averaging 40-45 fps.

Several people have mentioned that the beta limits you to "high" graphics settings. If I remember correctly, that's two levels below maxing out. Plus, the DX10 version will be utilizing a lot of technology unavailable to DX9 users. So, I think it would be wise to wait before passing judgement on graphics quality.

Pre-order privilege only applies to purchases from the EA Store. Just a note.

Also, I noticed that Amazon.com changed their release date from the 16th to the 13th. Hadn't heard anything about a change in plans..
