i got a 250gb drive from best buy a couple weeks ago on sale for 99.99. you can backup all your data to a thumb drive or external hard drive you plug into it. make sure you go online and download the most recent PS3 firmware and put it on a thumb drive, then once you put the new hard drive in, you update the system with it. pretty simple. Only thing I hated was that after installing it and updating the system I only got 200GB of usable space. What is it on the PS3 that needs to take so much space?
I went to best buy and got a 250GB SATA drive 5400rpm 2.5inch on sale for $99.99. really good deal! only problem is once you get it in the system and update it, you lose about 50GB. so you have 200GB of usable space, which is really plenty.
mine is up to date and works like a charm. sounds like you have a mechanical problem in which case, you will have to either send it in if still covered under the warranty or you will have to buy a new one.

yes there is nudity, like the ps2 versions. rated M for blood, violence, and brief nudity. I am sure there are more reasons but those are three for sure. hope that helps!
