For my first blog; a rant (didn't think you could find one of those on the internet eh?).
Todays subject; the annoyance of mandatory multiplayer accounts.
Mind I am not talking about MMO's or anything that involves persistent stats. I'm talking about first person shooters mostly, but it applies to RTS games too. Basicly, my problem is this; why does every single game today require that you go through the annoying process of creating an account and sifting through dozens of names and passwords (most of which end up being taken by the time you get down to it, or a glitch in the system bars you from using this or that in the names)? What happened to being able to fire up a shooter, pick a server and just jump right in and play?
This little snag has ended up turning me away from some online sides of games (including Crysis Wars), because after the first five tries of trying to get an account working, I simply loose interest.
In summary; unless I am playing a role playing game, I really don't care to have that ID, nor do I give a damn about tracked scores in an FPS or RTS. When I buy a new game, I want to jump right in and have my fun without wasting the better part of half an hour trying to set up an account that really has no impact on anything at all.....
