At 25, I can clearly remember that the N64 had a slew of good games, but I remember more advertisement from PS1 and also that the N64 was aimed for kids and so were the games. Also, the PS1 had a wide variety of games and experimented with the new CD techonology which gave it the edge. Throw away the nostalgia glasses and you get why the N64 was a gen behind while others were going CD.
Same with the Wii today. It's too casual and I, as a grown man, want to make good use of the HD and Blue Ray technology, faster processors, and super smooth controllers to immerse me in the action, adventure, and story of a videogame and not some gimmicky stick. Don't get me wrong, I'm mostly a classic gamer, but I recognize new technologies, but when Nintendo is ignoring them, their home systems end up for kids or "casual" gamers that bought a Wii as a set piece.
