I already can't run a steady 60FPS at 1080P in many games despite having an Evga GTX980Ti sc+. I didn't overclock it but I didn't think it was necessary.

Example of some games that I can't run 60FPS

- GTA 5 (the FPS is often in the 40s range, but I do have a graphic enhancer on, and everything it's on max settings)

- Rise of the Tomb Raider (50s) max with FXAA

- All Total War games. This is probably because of my CPU

So I wonder if going 1440P will drastically reduce the FPS in these games. In that case is it worth it? I don't really want to reduce image quality since I think I would value it more than resolution.

Thanks! I was just concerned that if I add mods to the SP, I could get banned online even if I have no intention of cheating there. So yeah now i'm just sticking to SP since the mods add so much fun, and glad to learn that R* doesn't prohibit mods offline.

I'm downloading GTA 5 from Steam. Can I install mods on the newest version of GTA, or is it something that R* doesn't allow and you will have to circumvent some measures to get around? Can you get banned?

@dethtrain: yeah i only have 35 gigs left so i didn't even install TW3 on it (my only PC game atm). Is it substantially faster to run games installed on SSD? If so I may consider buying an extra SSD because right now loading time for TW is not substantially faster than on console.

@Rob27shred: thanks a lot for your elaborate answer and helpful advice. I currently have a 600 W AC power adapter (at least that's what listed on HP for my model). Is that good for my rig? If not i will change it, but it seems like a daunting th ing to do...I would never dare opening up a PS4 and swap parts.

Fortunately spending an extra few hundred $ is not an issue right now so I will look into replacing everything you suggested. That includes the power supply and possibly a video card. So would you recommend a GTX 970 or 980, or better? I only have a 1080P screen and I actually managed to run TW3 with everything on Ultra and get a good stable FPS. So I'm really happy. So I don't know if getting a better video card would be overkill if I could just wait for their eventual price drop.

Also do you think i should swap CPU fan? Someone told me that the default ones in pre-builT PC are bad, and could cause problem down the road if the CPU is not properly cooled.

@Juub1990: Well I'm not gonna play just TW3. Now that I have a PC, I will get all future games on PC. PS4 will be for the exclusives and games that could already run very well, maybe like MGS5 that is already 1080p 60FPS.

@Kh1ndjal: Yeah I borrowed a ethernet cable from my roommate, and suddenly I'm getting 700kbps! I actually managed to download the whole game installation parts overnight.

Unfortunately, I keep getting an error issue when trying to install, and GOG says I have to re-download the whole thing with their software...

THIS IS JUST GREAT. I'm starting to miss the plug-in-n-play of the consoles...T_T

@gamertushar123: I've seen some youtube videos doing benchmark test with the same video card but worse stuffs for others, it seems good enough.

I'm not asking for 60 FPS. Having being a console player until now, having a stable 30 fps is good enough for now.
