unfortunately you're going to have to consider a full system upgrade in the near future. the GPU is your biggest bottleneck and that would have to be upgraded. but then any new card you get will likely be bottlenecked by the CPU, so you're pretty much going to have to do the whole thing over anyway. sorry mate
yeah, only get the 8800GTX if you intend to play at resolutions of 1600*1200 or higher, it'll be a waste otherwise. it's a fantastic card, you won't regret owning one mate :)
yeah, you're meant to format windows if you've done a major system upgrade like changing cpu or mobo. gfx cards don't necessarily require a format, but will require the drivers to be removed if you are changing from nvidia to ati (or vice versa), the two sets of drivers will conflict with each other and cause many problems.
for the 8800 GTX, i heard some people say you need less 2.6gh CPU to run it on best. Is this right?kiki5334
huh? did you mean whether you need better than a 2.6 GHz processor to get optimal performance out of an 8800? basically, you need a OC'ed C2D to avoid bottlenecking a single 8800. as far as i know, even a maxed out C2D will still bottleneck an 8800 GTX in SLI...
good quality speares tend to show crackling and white noise better than the lesser ones. i once used my 680's on an onboard sound card and it sounded terrible. once i got an Audigy 2, most of the crackling and white noise went away. i'd recommend getting a pci sound card.
