I'm not understanding all the hate. I appreciate there has been history and to be honest, I'm not one to comment as I've never played any of the 3D Sonic. The last Sonic I played was Mania and 4, before that 1, 2, 3 and CD. So I suppose it's hard for me to critique when I've never played the others.
But, I got this because it looked fun in the videos and Sonic 1 was the first video game I ever played as a 6/7 year old! So, it's nostalgia for me.
And you know, it's fun! I'm really enjoying it. Not sure how I'll feel once I'm 30 or so hours in. Some commenters mention Fenyx and how that became a chore, and I have to agree. I loved that game until I was 75% through and I just got bored and never completed it.
Pros
- Fun, silly, but enjoyable.
- Fast paced, varying in terms of things to do and it's difficulty.
Cons
- Graphically nothing special, even on PS5. But, I didn't exactly expect a spectacle.
- I can see it will become repetitive. I'm only on the first island and I expect it's more of the same throughout.
- Hate to agree, but sometimes it is hard to lock-on etc. I often 'fell' either because I missed the lock-on or I was simply going so fast I couldn't stop Sonic before he fell! Got a little annoying at times.
Overall, if you like Sonic and you're interested in this new take on it, I'd say it's worth a punt. If you've been burnt too often, then wait till it's in a bargain bin.
Day 1 purchase. Can’t wait! Don’t understand why so many people complain about graphics. If you want 4K, 8K etc then you’re using the wrong console. I’ve only ever owned an N64 and then Switch (from Nintendo) and I can’t say Nintendo have ever done graphics. But frankly, it doesn’t bother me. I play these games because they’re fun. I’d never played D or P until I got BD and I’ve loved it! SwSh was really good too, so much so, I played through twice (and bought the DLC which I never do as I’m typically bored by the time I reach the end!). Can’t think of any recent game on my PS4 I’ve played twice. I got AC Valhalla massively reduced and I’m barely progressed. I’ve much rather played Pokémon.
I bought a switch because I travel abroad lots for work and was frustrated with trying to maintain a capable gaming laptop. The switch was accessible and portable. If I had any gripe, there is not enough game selection, but that’s a cost of portability. I’ve played more Pokémon than any other game on my switch so I’m excited to get my hands on this tomorrow particularly now as it’s received a solid review score!
