@maldul @spiralhedgehog @darkfightersoul It is more of a spin-off game. It has similar elements like the spells, personas (which are based off the demons), and a tweaked version of press turn, but the themes are dramatically darker and mature, and the party system is different. The mainline SMT games are I, II, if..., III: Nocturne, Strange Journey, the first Devil Summoner and now this game. The rest are spin-off games in the universe, like Devil Survivor and Persona. SMT I, II, and if... were for the Super Famicom and never came out in the US, but there are fan translation patches for I and II. Although they are quite difficult games (and they don't tell you ANYTHING), and take some time getting used to, their stories are GREAT! I'd say Persona is a good primer and then go play Nocturne if you can.
@maldul There are a ton of references to the first SMT game in this game, so if you are a long time fan it'll be pretty nice to see, but you don't need to play the others to know much. I'd say play Nocturne to get a feel for the press turn battle system, but it is pretty intuitive. Strange Journey is good, but I'm not sure if it is the "best" entry point, because the battle mechanics are pretty different overall.
I know you are probably mentally retarded (especially when you use the article stating that Space Marine ripped off GoW, when it is the other way around. 40K has been around for 25 years you idiot,) but more competition in the games industry is a GOOD thing not bad. And the quality and of THQ games far outweigh any drivel most major publishers have made this generation. Especially your precious Rockstar's GTA. I'd much rather have fun with Saint's Row than be bored to tears with GTA. And Stalker ripping off Doom 3? Have you EVEN PLAYED STALKER? Get your head out of your ass. @CaesarIIII
