Goodbye Jeff Gerstmann

As you probably already know if you're reading this, Jeff Gerstmann was fired recently after working hereat gamespot for pretty much forever. The rumor is that it is because he gave that stupid Kane and Lynch game a 6 even though there has been all sorts of advertising and stuff on this website about the game. If this is true then it is completely unfair and even unconstitutional. He should be able to write anything he wants about whatever game he wants. But no, he got fired because of advertiser pressure or something, its still not very clear yet. But this makes me really sad. Sure I have been kinda of annoyed by Jeff such as when they first got the wii and he didn't seem to thrilled by it, and when he gave zelda an 8.8, but still, he was the funniest and coolest guy on this site. Post here if you will also miss him.

Had a crazy dream

I had a dream that I was in best buy and Steve Carrel was there. Actually there were 2 steve carrels, one with a bit of a beard, and one without a beard. They were sitting at a table and two of my friends were there were with them soi sit down. i dont really remember what happened after that except that one of the steve's drank a bunch of chocolate milk. yeah, i know, i have weird dreams.

Then I played a demo of SSBB that they had in best buy. I played with link ona corneria level similar to the one in the melee(there is no corneria level brawl so far, it was just in my dream.) If the game is anything like the one in my dream then it should be pretty good.

One year of Gamespot

I've been a member here on gamespot for a whole year now. That's pretty cool i guess. Also, I just got theneighborly badge, which makes me happy. I like getting badges, and I really want to get the good taste badge.Anyway, I just went on a vacation to New York, and I went to the Nintendo World store. It was a lot smaller then I thought it would be, and they unfortunately didn't have any demos of upcoming games like Metroid Prime and Mario Galaxy, just stuff like Zelda, Excitetruck, and Fantastic Four. But it's still cool just to say you've been there.

I got the Metroid Prime 3 update today. It's really cool that they are doing this type of thing cause this is the type of thing I really want in online. It would have been even better if there was a demo, but those videos were pretty cool, and besides, its only two and a half weeks away, I'll be playing it in no time. To bad it's coming out on the 28th instead of the 27th now. I'm also happy Super Metroid will be coming out soon. I missed that game when I had a Super Nintendo because I didn't even know Samus existed till Super Smash Bros came out. I think that instead of making a different channel for each game there should just be a preview channel for the games they do previews for. But o well, it doesn't really matter.

Here's to another great year at gamespot!

My top ten games of the gamecube, and some other stuff.

I know it's a little late to be making this list, but I all of a sudden felt I wanted to make a list of my top ten favorite gamecube games, and a couple other stuff so thats what I'm doing. You might think this is a bit of a weird list, since I was pretty young during my time with the gamecube, and didn't really know what games to get. As a result I have quite a few average games and missed out on a lot of the best ones. Also, I unfortunately can't play M games, so there will be no RE4 or Eternal darkness. After this list there will be some special awards and my E3 impressions. Enjoy and please leave a comment, I wanna get more then one this time.

#10- 007:Nightfire

Yeah, I know, it's a weird choice but 007 really was a fun game. It is definintly the best bond game since Goldeneye, and has a really great multiplayer. I have spent hours playing the multiplayer with friends. The single player aint to shabby to and it has some really cool moments and memorable characters. My Rating- 8.2

#9- Spiderman 2

Yes the game has mediocre graphics, laughable cutscenes and repetetive combat and missions. The only reason I have this game on my list is the webswinging. Swinging from building to building is so incredibly fun and addictive you will spent many hours just jumping around and diving off the empire state building. You actully feel like Spiderman. This is by far the best superhero game ever made. My Rating- 8.3

#8- Super Mario Sunshine

It just goes to show how downhill Mario went on the gamecube when his game got only number 8 on my list. Super Mario 64 is my favorite game of all time, and Yoshis Island, Mario World, and Mario land 2 are up there, but Sunshine only gets number 8 my list for one system? Thats pretty bad. It's all because of that stupid waterpack which took up all the buttons that should have been used to do back flips, long jumps, and breakdancing. Sorry Shigeru, but spraying water simply isn't as cool as doing backflips, long jumps, and breakdancing. Also there were only 7 levels! SEVEN! That is ridiculously low. Don't get me wrong, Sunshine is still a great game with it's nice graphics, and great level design, but the water pack and low number of levels really ruined it. My Rating- 8.3

#7- The Legend of Zelda- The Wind Waker

Zelda also went really downhill. Many other Zelda game rank among my favorite games, but this one just wasn't up to snuff. Just like Sunshine, there were just a couple of bad design choices that ruined it for me. First of all sailing in a video game is the worst idea ever!!! It is so incredibly boring just to sail around all thetime. You don't even have to be in the same room while Link is sailing cause absolutely nothing happens to him. Sure, you usually only sail for a minute or two at a time, but after doing that 15 or 20 time you just want to kill yourself. I also don't like the combat that much because all of yourcombos comprise of 4 moves, and then you have to stop for a second and then do for more attacks and stop for a second. For some reason this really bugs me. Also the game is insultingly easy, you will probably only get hit once or twice in the boss battles, and you can easily mow over normal enemies to. But it is also good. It will last quite a while and has tons of side quests and extra areas to explore. You will have fun in the dungeons and while there are only 6 main ones there are a lot of mini dungeons. The puzzles are as good as ever and the graphics and music are awesome. The Cel-shaded art is really cool. This is still a great game, but the sailing ruins a lot of the fun. My Rating- 8.5

#6- Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II

If you love Star Wars (and who doesn't) you have to play this game. It's simply awesome. The graphics are some of the best on the gamecube (and this was a launch title) and the sound is great to. It even has the real actor of Wedge Antilles from the movies doing the voice of Wedge in the game. The whole game takes place in various spaceships in a lot of different locations. You get to shoot up Tie fighters every were from the Death Star to the 2nd Death Star, Bespin and Hoth, and places you've never even heard of before. This is the closest to flying a real X-wing you're ever gonna get and it is really fun. Best moment? Shooting up ridiculous amounts of tie's in the last battle of Endor. If every level was as good as The Battle of Endor, and the game was a little longer, it would have been higher on this list. My Rating- 8.8

#5- F-Zero GX

For some reason when I first played this game I didn't like it very much. I thought it was really frustrating and boring. Then I played it again a couple months later and had a blast, racing at ridiulously high speeds through the 20 crazy twisty turny tracks of the game. The graphics are really really good and the sound, while not quite as good, still has some memorable tunes. I especcially like this game because it is actually hard. Many games on the gamecube were insultingly easy (I'm thinking of you Zelda) but this game was extremely difficult. You will die many times, and the story mode is crazy hard. There are two difficulties, and while the lower one is managable, the higher one is pretty much impossible. Unfortunately some of the tracks are kinda dumb and the game doesn't have tons of replay value, but altogether thegame is very fun. My Rating- 8.8

#4 Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Despite the somewhat silly name, MP2 is basically just as good as the first. It has amazing graphics, which are just a little better then the original and probably the best on the system. It lasts a good long while and is simply incredibly fun. It would take to long to explain whats so good about the gameplay and since this isn't a review all you need to know is that it's really good. The environments arn't as interesting or varied as the first, but it's still "atmospheric." Also, this one has the screw attack. YAY screw attack!!! My Rating- 9.1

#3 Mario Kart: Double Dash

I love Mario Kart, and this is by far the best. It is simply fun. I'm so good at this game, that when I played all 16 levels in the game with 3 of my friends, I got first place in every single one. Even though it has less levels then F-Zero it for some reason has more replay value. I still love playing this game even after owning it for a long time. This is really a clasic game. My Rating- 9.1

#2 Metroid Prime

What can I say about this game that hasn't already been said? The atmospere, the graphics, the music, the gameplay, the attention to detail, everything is just phenomonal (spelling?) It was the first Metroid game I played and I've been a fan of the series ever since. Also, it is quite challenging, especially on hard mode. Also it has some genuinely scary moments. I really hate those chozo ghosts. It has some great areas to explore especially the snowy Phendrana drifts. My main complaint is the large amount of backtracking and lack of wide open areas. But overall, this is one of the best games I've ever played. My Rating- 9.3

#1 Super Smash Bros Melee

Is there anyone that has played this game beforethat didn't love it? It is simply incredible. Few things are more fun then immersing Jigglypuff into Bowser's cavernous mouth. Getting to play as all your favorite Nintendo characters in all your favorite Nintendo locations and using all your favorite Nintendo items with all your favorite Nintendo music playing in the background is just plain fun. The game has the most replay value of any game I've ever played. I still enjoy playing it 5 1/2 years after getting it. However it is getting a little old and when Brawl comes out this game will become obsolete. But until then Melee ranks among my favorite games ever, and is my favorite Gamecube game of all time. My Rating- 9.5

Wow that took a while. I have probably developed carpal tunnel syndrome after all that typing, so you had better leave a comment! Just in case you're wondering, the reason my ratings on this list arn't the same as the ratings on the bottom of the screen is because gamespots stupid new rating systemonly lets me rate in .5 incraments.Looking back, the gamecube defintly wasn't my favorite system ever. Only 4 games I played got an AAA rating, and there was a lack of new IP's since every game on this list is a sequel. This is partly because I didn't really try to get the best games or new games. I just got the ones I thought looked cool, and my brothers also bought a lot a games. If I had been the age I am now when the Cube came out I would have gotten a lot more out of the system, but I still love that purple lunchbox (actually mine was silver but whatever.)But wait, there is still more to come. Now for my special awards.

Honorable mentions- Pikmin, Splinter Cell, Super Monkey Ball 2, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, 007: Everything or Nothing

Downright worst game- Fantastic Four

Best game on another system- Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic

Most underrated game- Enter the Matrix

Most overrated game- Wave Race: Blue Storm

Most disapointing game- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest

Games I most want to play- Resident Evil 4, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requim, Pikmin 2, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

And finally my E3 impressions. I can't say I like E3 that much, mainly cause I would much rather just play the games myself. It annoys me to watch these people having oodles of fun when I am just sitting in the basement staring at the computer. Actually during one of the E3 days I went to a water park and had a lot more fun then I would have if I just stayed here and watched the computer.Over all, E3 is kinda cool, but just kinda.

im excited for E3

This is the first year that I have really known what e3 is and have been excited about it. I'm mainly a Nintendo fan so I can't wait to see some new footage of Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros (yes i know smash bros wont be playable, but hopefully they will show a new trailer.) Also they are supposed to be showing some new "surprises" perhaps a new Pikmin game, a new Kid Icarusor even a new Legend of Zelda!!!! Maybe some entirely new and crazy game! Oh the sweet anticipation

Super Paper Mario

It was so so so so so close to getting the 9 rating from me, but didn't quite make it. Only the best of the best get 9s, and it simply wasnt good enough. Instead I gave it 8.9 Two small changes would have made it better. First, if there was more platforming in it. There should have been portions with moving platforms and tons of bullet bills and classic Mario platforming action, but the game was more about puzzles. Puzzles are fine, but there should have been more jumping. Second, the bosses were ridiculously easy. It took like, ten hits to kill the final boss. In fact they really didn't get harder as the game went along, the first was just as hard as the last. The bosses also repeated way to much, I think you fight one of them 4 times throuhout the game.

With just those 2 small changes, the game would have been great.
