Actually you don't know that MGS4 is the best 3rd person action game, because you haven't played it.

Even the 80GB model that's coming out soon will be able to play the vast majority of games via software emulations. that's a big reason for any PS2 owner to upgrade to a PS3, not to mention the awesome games coming out for the PS3.

Best Sellers on amazon, Video Games

I hate to break it to you, but as a UK gamer with the PS2 emulation in the PS3, it's quite rubbish on lots of games and good on others. Jo Bloggs won't understand this and many that buy a PS3 will take it back when their old PS2 games don't work.
The price drop is just a stock clearance so they can get on with the new model. The new version is cheaper to make without the emotion engine, but they add in extra capacity to balance. In every industry you have a sales spike when you have a sale to clear stock.
It will be interesting to see what the sales are like when the 80Gb version is the only one available.

DVD is a great format, but to fit all of the data needed for a lot of the upcoming next gen games, you would need a lot of compression. This means that the 360 will have to decompress the data for it to be usable. Blu-Ray is different because there is so much space that you do not have to compress it. It can reduce loading times at some times. That is why Blu-Ray is better.AIH_PSP

Except that the Blu Ray Drive is much slower than the 360 DVD drive so you lose and advantage in loading times.
Besides, it's not needed for gaming other than video's. But the graphics are so good now it's better doing cut-scenes using the game engine to keep it feeling like the same game. The only exception to this is MGS which as always had a ridiculous amount of video scenes, which would need the space of a blu ray. Still, even then there is no reason why a game like that can't be put on mulitple discs.
Only when there is a game when the persistant game world takes over 9gbs will there be a "need" for extra capacity in games. Obviously it's covenient, but it's not actually needed yet and will be quite a while till it is. It's cheaper to make two dvd discs that one blu-ray.
