I don't write blogs. But I feel like ranting right now.
I own 20 xbox 360 games, and last week my xbox decided to headshot itself... WTF! 20 games! Now I gotta look at them for the next few weeks. All of the multiplatform titles that I own are on xbox, now what the hell do I do, play my ps3!?
That's not completely fair to say. The ps3 is great, but mainly because of the hardware. There are a few great games on it, but they are mainly the exclusives. And that's all that I own for it. Sure, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, and LittleBigPlanet came out not too long ago (and Killzone 2 has a map pack coming out next week), but when you beat those, there is far less to do than with something like COD's infinite multiplayer, or Gears' Horde mode.
In the first 2 days that Killzone 2 was on store shelves, I beat the Campaign, and put 8 to 10 hours into the multiplayer. At the end of that week, I put about 30 hours total into the multiplayer. As of now, I have about 43 hours logged into it. I think that with 3/4 of the medals, I'm starting to tire of it.
R2 multiplayer is great because of it's scale, but can become chaotic, and sometimes even a massacre if one team is stronger than the other. The co-op campaign is solid, although usually I would prefer to pick up different weapons as opposed to playing 200 rounds just to get the points to unlock new ones.
And LBP, which has a charm of its own. Why shoot someone when you can create your own "baddies" in the level editor? The editor alone can have plenty of time put into it, but one can also play the hundreds of thousands of custom made levels out there as well. The building part gets most of the attention here.
One game that I should include that I didn't mention is Metal Gear Solid 4. It was released almost a year ago now, and the single player alone is still enough to keep me playing every now and then.
But besides those 4 titles, what else is there? The first Motorstorm is ok, and Resistance Fall of Man. But I've never been into Rachet & Clank (seems quite similar to Jack & Daxter), and Kratos has yet to make his debut on the next gen console.
The one big flaw that I find in the ps3 hardware though is the lack of backwards compatability(the newer cheaper ones, cause I'm not rich OR paying $500 dollars for a console). Which even the 360 has.
So until I start caring less about gamerpoints than I do about *laugh* trophies, or the ps3 gets more good games, I'll be bound to Microsofts' excuse for a game system.
All this because of three little red lights...
