FINALLY, I'm a Homeowner!!

For those of you who remember a blog entry from 1 1/2 years ago, I posted how I was buying a farmhouse with 8 acres of land. To make a long story short, I was not able to close on the house due to the ineptitude of the bankrupt owner and the bank that tried to forclose on the property with an active bankruptcy case.

Fast forward to October of last year when we finally decided to give up on the farmhouse and made an offer on another house. This one was a Short Sale, which is not quite at foreclosure but is going to be soon in that stage. Once again, the bank was to blame for us not closing on the house. In this case, the bank shuffled their feet and didn't move quickly enough. Winter came and went, and the plumbing was never winterized (This means shutting off the water from the source inside the house.Secondly, air is blownthrough all the pipes to prevent the standing water from freezing.) This was not done and the pipes burst from the inside, causing about $2000 worth of damage which I was NOT paying to repair.

Fast forward again to February. My wife and I found yet a third house that we really liked and wanted to buy. We entered into a contract and elected to have a home inspection done (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE BUYING A HOUSE TO HAVE THIS DONE). The home inspection hires a professional to go through the house and point out any potential concerns relating to the construction, mechanicals, plumbing, etc. of the house. The crawlspace underneath the house was horrible. Debris was littered throughout, rotted wood supports were present, and other problems. There was a huge puddle of water in the basement, which happened due to inadequate drainage on the inside. Needless to say, we got out of the contract to buy this house.

Now, about a month and a half ago, we found a FOURTH house that we liked and wanted to buy. It was on the same street, the construction and structure of the interior were very similar. However, the problems that existed in the crawlspace and basement were nowhere to be found. Jackpot! This is the house that we finally found no glaring issues with and loved even more than the other three previous attempts at purchasing. A year and a half of searching, trying to buy and not being able to, and endless pestering of our real estate agent to show us houses is over.

Pictures will be posted later today or tomorrow!
