Whoops, I forgot that Smash Bros. is a technically a fighter. I own all the games from that series.

@judaspete: Those titles seem right up my alley. VF5 and Soul Calibur IV are dirt cheap so they are a no-brainer purchases. That leaves either Blazblue or MK to decide on. Also does Street Fighter IV still have a decent arcade mode like in SFII and the Alpha games? Or were those ditched in favor of multiplayer?

Not sure if this is the right place, but recently I have been thinking about picking up a fighting game after about a 20 year absence (the last fighting games I played a lot of were UMK3, Samurai Showdown, and Street Fighter Alpha 2) and am wondering what to buy. One caveat: I have no interest in multiplayer so I'm looking for a game that has a solid arcade mode with challenging AI and, if possible, other worthwhile single player content. I have most of the current/older systems so it doesn't necessarily have to be this gen. What would you all suggest? Thanks.

@suicidesn0wman: I hear ya. While Dragon Warrior 2 wasn't too bad at $20 (Edit: I just bought it), Dragon Warrior 3 runs around $50, and Dragon Warrior 4 is around $70. TMNT: The Arcade Game seems to be running about $15 so I'll probably pull the trigger on it next paycheck.

Finally got my hands on a copy of the original Contra for the NES. Just need to track down TMNT: The Arcade Game and Dragon Warrior 2 - 4 and I will have finally repurchased all the NES games I once owned as a kid before I had to sell them to buy an SNES.

Byshop, restoring the post with the emulation line removed would be fine and thank you for the clarification on the strike.

I can agree that the legality of emulation is very much a gray area that could benefit from laws being established that clearly define what represents legal/illegal copying. However, as it stands right now emulation is technically legal in the U.S. (our interpretations on this point I think we will just have to agree to disagree on) and because I believe that a person should be able to make a copy of something that was legally purchased as long as it is not shared with someone else, I see no problem with emulating the games I own unless it becomes illegal.

Having said all that, I do understand that Gamespot is unable to discern my intentions and will refrain from posting additional comments on emulation as I am now aware of their stance on this topic.

Hello Byshop. I'll concede point two since the forum owner makes the rules and I do understand that if I remake the post without the emulation part it would be fine for the website. (Although I'm not exactly sure how to do that since I'm assuming that even using the phrase "I want to use this PC to play older games I own" with no reference to emulating them isn't going to fly.) I'm even fine with a website, saying "hey, we don't want people discussing emulation in any fashion since it's prone to abuse". However, being penalized for violating something that isn't mentioned in the forum rules and pointing to illegal activity as if that covers everything is problematic in this instance since the activity in question:

A. Is technically legal.

B. Is not designed solely to hurt or offend someone like racist commentary. (A critical distinction in my opinion.)

C. Would not give someone who wanted to illegally steal games the means to commit said activity. (Someone who builds or buys a PC would still have no idea how to run something like DOSBox or emulation software.)

I'm really not trying to cause a big uproar here. My issue is less about the post being taken down and more about having a mark placed against my account for something I did not do nor had any intention of doing. My suggestion would be to add something to the posting guidelines that indicates that any talk of emulation is prohibited. Anyway, I'll wait for the Community Manager's response and once that final determination has been made, I'll abide by that decision.

I writing this to dispute the removal of my forum post yesterday as a violation that I was asking for a method to steal games. In the post, I asked if $300 was enough to spend for a low-end PC that could play the 8 bit/16 bit games I own via emulation. I bold and underline this point because I specifically mentioned in the post that my intention was only to do this for the games I own. This should not be considered a violation as it is perfectly legal in the US to make a copy of something legally purchased. (I bring that up since the moderator who flagged it has UK in his/her name suggesting that he/she might be from the United Kingdom... where I believe that type of copying is illegal.) Emulating a game you legally purchased is no different than converting a music CD you own to a mp3 or FLAC file. It only becomes illegal if it is stolen or shared with others. (Not that it matters, but all the music that is stored on my computer I legally purchased online via Amazon or HDtracks or copied from a CD I legally purchased at some point and has never been shared with others.) It is not my intention to illegally download games I do not own or share them with others on the Internet.

Furthermore, in my post, I at no time ask for any advice as to where to download games or obtain emulation software. The only question I ask is for specs regarding a low priced PC that can run 8 bit/16 bit games and watch movies I own. Unless asking for advice as to what PC to buy has suddenly become a taboo topic, I request that my post be reinstated and any marks against my making inappropriate posts for illegal activity be removed.
