i gotta say Halo too. awfully simple shooter. i don't understand what people see in that game. maybe it's just me (PC gamer, been playing these since Wolf3d and Doom 1) and maybe it just is console-FPS at it's best... ;)

ah well, like i said, i wouldn't know. i prefer PC.

what does 64bit Vista have against 32bit Vista? 64bit application support. plain and simple. no reason to get 32bit Vista if you have 64bit cpu. it supports 32bit apps too.

does it have conflicts with games?-Dartagnan-

no more than with 32bit Vista. WinXP is still the best gaming platform, but all my games have worked perfectly on 64bit Vista.

I think if developers just dont take this anymore and refuse to implement dx10.1 MS will learn its lesson.

Deamon321

nice idea, but windows is the ultimate gaming platform on PC, so there's no really a choice to make. it's move on or stay behind. spirit of competition.

Here comes PCie2.0 and new processor slot for amd and intel.

I think tech evolution is great and all, but isnt it getting outta hand??

Yep it is. I've given up months ago - I can't keep up anymore.

yes indeed. some science-dude said over a decade ago that technology is going to advance exponentially (as it certainly seems to do), so it's only gonna get worse for us (=consumers).

news for you: next lineup of GPUs don't support DX11. this is the way things just go. only that this time it happened pretty fast. my guess? it's only gonna get faster.

edit: so when to upgrade your rig? i say when you need to. in other words, upgrade for a specific game/games (or other apps) and don't mind the future. your plans will only be shattered after few months. just like in this specific case.

absolutely 64-bit. it totally supports 32-bit apps just as well. plus you have 64-bit support ready when u need it :) i was thinking about the same problem few months ago, and decided to do a dual boot for XP and 64-bit Vista. haven't used XP a single time yet. all 32-bit apps work just fine.

and it depends on what your "most stable speed" actually is. some cards overclock better than others. even two identical cards from the same manufacturer can have a notable difference in overclocking.

I have vista ultimate which i used about 2 days. Then i went back to xp.

Why? Because it was laggy and hogging too much resources even when i run a high end computer. Dont worry i didnt pay for it...

Pessu

weird. cos mine works just fine. even boots as fast (if not even faster) than my XP.

using AMD 64 X2 4200+, 3GB DDR2 and NVIDIA 7900 GS. i wouldn't even call this a high end rig yet with todays standards. you might get problems when running it with 1GB or less RAM though (wich definetly ain't high-end anymore).

you'll do fine with that rig for a while. at least today :] who knows about these things anymore when new stuff is coming out every month or two. there are these rumours about a 1 teraflop card coming out from NVIDIA, but we'll see. and we'll see if there are even games coming out in near (or further) future that's even gonna need one.
