The British government apparently, has only just begun to realise how much our relatively small games development industry is worth.
However, it may be too late, as all of our developers are migrating to Canada, where they are offering tax breaks and extra opportunities for games development studios.
Never one to miss an opportunity to appear bitter and twisted, the UK government have had their lawyers begin research into whether or not these incentives, given by french and canadian governments are against the ecenomic obligations they hold under some treaty or something i forget the name of.
So it's not happy that it's losing all it's talent to other countries, but it still wants to skim the cream and offer no incentive for staying! What a load of crap. Not to mention they are still perfectly happy to allow unlawful bans (Manhunt 2!)
They say if these incentive schemes are found to be fully in appliance with these obligations, then the UK will 'consider' a similar scheme, however they specifically mentioned these incentives would only be granted to games which are considered 'Culturally relevent'
Excuse me? Culterally relevent?! For one, that doesn't even make sense, for two, who decides this? Huh? What a complete joke.
The British Government, day by day they make themselves look more desperate and out of touch, like a tired old proffessor stumbling to gather his dropped papers as the other countries younger selfs drift past sneering at him, or feeling sorry for him.
The Government needs to make it's place clear, it needs to sort itself out and make an announcement about it's future policies. Either it wants to nanny us, ban violent imagary, and continue the road it's travelling, while anyone with talent runs for their lives. Or they embrace the creative industries, and give us a reason to stay, not continue to give us reasons to leave!
This news has made me most angry, possibly more angry than the unlawful ban of Manhunt 2. It is incredibly bitter and unsporting of the government, not to mention greedy.
