I know it's sometime today, but what are the chances of it happening before 11.30am?

Cos that's when the 360 has to be unplugged and packed cos i'm moving house at 12 noon :\

I don't want to wait 2 weeks for it (new place does not have the internet yet)

Edit: UK time, so I suppose that would be earlier in the states.

Roleplaying. It was decidedly absent from the previous game.

Goblins + Dungeons =/= Roleplaying.

Have you ever thought to yourself, "Why can I see these flaws but nobody else can?" RobbieH1234

Yes, and the answer is complicated, but it has to do largely with one of my previous statements about masses of people who knew nothing of the genre before X came out flocking towards it because it was new and interesting, despite the fact that to your average PC gamer it was complete garbage. (Halo, Oblivion are the two huge examples. As up until then the only decent FPS on consoles that was a huge commercial success was Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. And the only RPG's console fans were familiar with were JRPGs)

I also get tired of this "Goblins + Dungeons + Levelling = RPG" because it's a complete fallacy. Setting does not dictate genre, never has, never will.

Some of these reasons (and my own passion for the industry) are what lead me to start my 4 year Computer Games Development university course. That and I want to be able to respond to "If u dunt think it's gud y dunt u maek a gaemz that is bettar?!" with "Ok, it's coming out next friday."

Thats a ludicrous statement.

There is a large amount of much higher quality RPGs than Oblivion just because you've never played them doesn't mean that we are not allowed to dislike it. And why should I be forced to enjoy Oblivion as much as I can when there are much better roleplaying experiences on offer?

Seriously, it does not stand out to be the best RPG, not even the best WRPG, just off the top of my head games like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, Planescape: Torment, Fallout, Deus Ex, Mass Effect, NWN2, Daggerfall and even Icewind Dale are just a handfull of RPGs who stand out much farther ahead of Oblivion in terms of experience.

This 'experience' people keep defaulting to after they admit that there is little to no roleplaying to be had is just a myth, seriously, what 'experience' can be had from doing the same tile built dungeon over and over again in the same field?

Would be fine if it were an action/adventure/sandbox game. But as something that hypes itself as (and is hyped by others as) the best roleplaying experience of our times, it's lack of story, thought and depth is completely unacceptable. That is by no means a small, but ignorable flaw.

All those combined wont last you all summer.

I plan on going back and playing some older games because i'm flat broke.

For example Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity, and MUA again.

First off, I'd like to point out that Oblivion has been out for over 2 years. This was one of the first XBox 360 games to appear on the XBox 360. This game didn't just come out last week. This game really tested the XBox 360 machine early to see how the XBox could handle this game. I think it did a damn good job. It's easier to look back at games to find flaws you wouldn't initially find. For example, at the time, many of us thought Final Fantasy 7 was perfect. But looking back on FF7 after years of its' release, we can find flaws. I want to go on the record saying I love FF7, but looking back on it, you can see it had flaws. But there were more pros than cons to that game.

gr8scott

Firstly, noone cares about graphics in this discussion. It's not about the graphics.

Secondly, yes we did notice these flaws upon release, and in fact have been complaining about them for years.

The only reason it's all coming out now in hindsight is because there are too many people praising Fallout 3 for no good reason despite all that is clearly wrong with it. And the only response to criticism seems to be "STFU!!! Oblivion was best ev4r!! Fallout 3 will be too!!!"

So we're just here to say no. In fact, Oblivion wasn't the best game ever put out, not even close, and while every game does have flaws, that's a tired old rebuttal that's as pointless as any other "My opinion invalidates yours" argument. Yes, every game will have flaws, whether minor or major, but Oblivions are huge and great in number considering its being hailed as one of the best RPGs of our time, I find this outright insulting.

Yes, FFVII had it's flaws, but even now (graphics aside) it's as close to perfect as a JRPG could want to get and fully deserves its praise. Oblivion does not.

We're just here to break peoples nostalgia for Oblivion because we're sick of explaining all of this in the countless "ZOMG Oblivion was great!!!" topics that keep getting posted by what could easily pass for Bethesda forum plants to drum up interest in Fallout 3.
